I love WWII historical fiction, and it is rare to read it set in Australia. Definitely interested.
There is no frigate like a book
To take us lands away,
Nor any coursers like a page
Of prancing poetry.
This traverse may the poorest take
Without oppress of toll;
How frugal is the chariot
That bears a human soul!

The characters seem quite interesting. I generally don't like historical fiction though, and the Australian setting is somewhat harder for me after seeing movies like The Man From Snowy River. Your review was quite thorough but I will be passing on this one.

I like historical fiction novels, and one that focuses on family relationships and brings about the nostalgia of a world in simpler times sounds like an enjoyable read. Thank you for this wonderful review!

I like this coming of age story involving Annie just after the second world war, covering the death of King George VI and the invention of new tech namely the kerosene heater and the washing machine. Thanks for the review.

Hard work is the key word. It is a very good thing to be hardworking in life. Without hard work, life can hardly go as intended. I love this family get together . This should be emulated by all families.

I like the concept of the story as well as the historical perspective of the Hughes. However this book is definitely not my cup of tea. Great review!
But the path I’ve chosen has always been the right one, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. :)

The world of the reader is never restricted to geographic locations or time periods. What a blessing to be able to travel to that era and experience what the world was like in that time period. I am sure many of us can relate to that one off neighbor that just didn't fit the bill. This will be an interesting story to dig deep into. Thanks for the outstanding review and i love your profile picture Stacie k its so darn cute.

Sounds like the story could be sad. I'm big on family and reconciliation, so hearing this family couldnt is sad. Unfortunately this book is not for me. Congratulations on BOTD.

I think the best part of this story was the historical cooming of age the upgrades and so forth they really brought back memories of a time period for me.

A well written history fiction set in Australia. Your review, particularly how you summarized the book, is very good. Thanks for the review.
