Reading about how these two brothers stuck together while growing up and how it gave them the strength to face the obstacles they faced had me completely engaged. Despite everything, they evolved into kind and compassionate individuals. I adore collaboration in all that I do. Congrats on BOTD.

I normallyike historical fiction but I feel the review is lacking in terms of what the book is about. The introduction about where Jacob and his brother's story start from doesn't necessarily tell me anything about it. My interest has not been piqued enough to want to read it.

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. Reading this book will be of interest to me considering the historical events incorporated into the story. Jacob sounds like a likeable character even after what he and his brother went through at the hands of their father.

I’m curious about what happens to the brother after their mother's death and what other traumas and secrets this book has to offer. I love reading historical fiction that shows a great emotional plot and interesting characters.

The book sounds interesting and really emotional and heartwarming. There is a lot in this book about friendship and positivity. Despite having experienced "the bad thing" when he was a teenager, Jacob decided to go on with his life, though he kept it a secret from everyone else, and made new friends, had new life, a wife and children. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

This book contains much suspense. Even the title is a cliffhanger! I wonder what shameful thing happened to Jacob and what the brothers did to their father, Max. In the first place, why would Max leave his young sons in a brothel?

I love Historical fiction, but not all of it and unfortunately, the current book is one of those unlucky exceptions. Too harsh, too serious, way too exposive of worst traits in human nature. Kids are untouchable for anyone, it is a law breaking, which reduces perpetrator to the level of monster deserving elimination. Apologies and still congrats on BOTD!

Really?! Use your imagination, what could happen to a kid in a place full of horny, drunk men?

I love a well-researched historical fiction! This book sounds really engaging, and even though I have only read the sample, I think I already have a good grip on Jacob's character. Phenomenal writing!

I'm a fan of historical fiction and like reading books about cultures and religions other than my own. The title, "The Story of . . ." seems to leave it up to readers what is most significant to them. After reading your review, I'm interested in reading this novel.

I love historical fiction, especially when the story is set in the early 20th century. Thank you for your honest and realistic review. I love to see that the many characters are well-developed.

This is an honest review which I enjoy! Enough insight was given to make one intrigued in this book. It sounds like there is a bit of family drama in this book. There is nothing like the right kind of motherly love and I am sorry that people have to go through the kind of relationship that their dad put them through.
