Oh, I just love stories from Ancient Greece. A forbidden romance and a war between Spartans and Athenians sounds pretty good to me. Thank you for the intriguing review!

I love a good historical fiction novel, even if I can't pronounce the characters names! It's a great way to learn about history. This sounds like a very interesting read. I really enjoyed reading your review.

Great choice for book of the day. As a lover of historical fiction and Greek mythology. I'm so impressed by this choice. "Pericles and Aspasia: A Story of Ancient Greece" is a captivating blend of history, mythology, and romance. Yvonne Korshak's meticulous research and profound insights make it a must-read for those seeking a captivating tale set in ancient Greece.

Great review. I don't really understand much on Greek mythology or ancient Greek history that involves love and romance and I'm not really a fan of history.

I have always enjoyed historical fiction novels, especially Greek mythology. The author has an exceptional writing style. After reading the sample, I cannot wait to continue reading about the love story of Pericles and Aspasia. The book review was knowledgable and filled with great detail.

I'm a stranger to Greek mythology, so I guess I'll get lost. I don't think I'm the right audience for this book. I do recognize the intensive research that the author did for this piece.

Thank you for this great review! This book is an anthem to the Golden Age and the glory of Athens during that time! I am glad to hear it pays a lot of attention to Greek mythology and includes various references.

Although this novel is about ancient times and Greek mythology, Pericles and Aspasia address issues that are very relevant today, for example, the paradoxes of democracy, the tensions of hierarchy, and the ironies of gender.

Thank you for a great review.

I completely agree with you, the author, Yvonne Korshak, did an outstanding job in bringing the ancient times of Greece to life through this historical fiction. The inclusion of Greek mythology and the portrayal of the Gods added an extra layer of depth to the story, making it truly captivating.

Yes! There are a couple different versions of how/why Athena was born from Zeus' head, but the one I share with my students is that Zeus swallowed Athena's mother (Metis) when she was pregnant because it was said that the next child born to her would be more powerful than Zeus and would overtake him the same way he did with his father. To prevent that from happening, he swallowed her (Metis) and her unborn child (Athena). When it was time for her to be born, Hephaestus hammered open Zeus' head and out popped Athena, fully grown and dressed as a warrior in her war/battle armor. That's why she is the goddess of war and wisdom. Such a wild story, but my students love it. :-)

Today's BOTD tells the story of Pericles and Aspasia, and it's the perfect read for fans of Greek mythology, historical fiction, romance, and philosophy. Complete with a map, character list, and sources, readers are sure to be fully engaged in the storyline from beginning to end. I'm looking forward to learning what their fate holds. Thank you so much for your awesome review and keep up the amazing work!! :-)

Greek mythology is a great background setting for a novel. Not sure about the need for gory descriptions of animal sacrifices, but those passages can be fast read.

This book sounds like a fascinating combination of Greek mythology, history, philosophy, and romance. I also like your mentioned thought-provoking quote, "the man working only for himself is working against the rest." Thank you for your excellent review and recommendation, Bertha. Congrats on BOTD!
