This review totally nails what makes "Blood Summer 1862" by Robert Hauser such a gem! They really capture how the author weaves historical events with fiction, and I love how they spotlight Julia's character for her compassion. Plus, they point out how the book doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of the time. It's like getting a front-row seat to history! Definitely a must-read for anyone into historical fiction or just craving a thought-provoking read.

I enjoyed reading your review of "Blood Summer 1862." It was thorough and very well thought out. You made history sound interesting, just like the author did. Your statement drew my interest: "The story also portrays the lasting impacts of the war on individuals." The human story behind wars is important. We learn about history to prevent repeating the same mistakes, so history isn't repeated, like with the Atomic Bomb. If the events in this book are factual, it sounds like a good way to get kids to learn about history without them realizing it.

Blood Summer 1862 by Robert Hauser transports readers to 1807, where President Jefferson discusses fur trading with John Jacob Astor, and Tecumseh plans war against the U.S. The story moves to 1858, featuring Chief Little Crow's visit to Washington, D.C., and the Civil War's onset. Hauser expertly blends historical events with fiction, highlighting the Dakota Sioux War and its impacts. Julia, my favorite character, stands out for her compassion and empathy.

The introduction of fictional characters during an historical period makes the story captivating. The characters are well-developed, and it is a pleasure to know them.

I am usually not interested in historical books with political elements. But I am very much intrigued about Julia's character.
