Thank you very much for the review. I read only the forst pages and notices that the book was well written and the characters develop naturally within the story. However, this book feels too sad for me, especially from all the pain and suffering that the protagonist goes through at such a young age.
Perhaps in the future I may change my mind and read it based on your positive review.

What a great review! I too enjoyed the small portion of the book I read. I can tell it will be a rewarding read. Typos and grammatical errors really frustrate me when reading, so I'm happy to hear that will not be an issue as I continue this novel.

I wouldn't exactly call a book of 290 pages a long book. This is actually the perfect length for a book, especially historical fiction. This sounds like an excellent book. I'm thrilled to hear that the characters are developed well. As for the foul language, not a problem for me. Looking forward to reading this one. Thanks for the great review!

Wonderful review and congrats to the author on BOTD, however this is not a genre I typically read so I probably won't pick it up.

Great review! Love the details. This sounds like a very poignant and moving read. Books about these very troubling times in history that are well written as this one obviously is really tend to leave a stamp in ones heart and mind. Thanks so much for sharing.

Odd my previous post didn't come through. In any event Thanks, for the excellent review. It is interesting to see a portrayal of the lives of the poor and destitute from their perspective.

The single criticism is the author's use of curse words.
A good, objective review by Kdonegan91. The rating given was the highest possible despite the reviewer's reservations about the need for some language deemed offensive.

Sounds like quite a coming of age story! This is a time period I'd like to read more about, and I love first person accounts in historical fiction! Will definitely put this on my list...

Thank you for the very insightful review. I had accidently come across this book at our public library, and though I am just in the middle of the story, I wholehearted agree with your review. What has really keeping me turning the pages is the characters Drew meets along his way to adulthood and what they teach him by the example of their own lives. (Wait until you meet Honeycutt, or Father Tom.....both very unforgetable!) I suspect Drew is going to stay with me for a very long time.

Thanks for the review. I think it is great when an author is able to develop a character well, especially when they are young characters that are changing. It sounds like you can be pretty particular about grammatical and editing issues so I am glad that you found this great...it bothers me too when a book is really bad!

Loved your review of Never Cry Again, it sounds like an interesting read. Sad though that a child has to go through this sort of thing and I know it has happened alot in the past and probably even now.
