An Israeli student and a Palestinian student are unlikely friends in school. They sing together and form a unique bond. The political strife during the 1980s makes this story interesting.

Another Romeo and Juliet. I hope the ending is not that tragic, although the context they are in hardly lets any room for hopes of a happy ending.
It is well that you mentioned the intricacy of the plot, I wonder if I am the kind of reader who enjoys such complications.
On the other hand, I would like to find out more about the area, especially as you say it is presented in an objective way.

The book shows Israel-Palestinian conflict from the early 1980s. It showcases the story of two children one from each community. How they live despite the conflicts. The story is historical fiction. I like the thing that the characters are well developed. It's a great review.

I love to read however, historical fiction is not usually my genre of choice. This well written review kinda makes me want to rethink this. I welcome being able to read a book and walk away with knowledge and maybe even a different outlook.

The subject is so complex and has gotten so much attention in newspapers, that it will be intriguing to read a story and understand nuances of the region. Action, Drama, History, Politics- looks like the book has it all. I look forward to reading this book.

Good review. I've been wanting to read more stories from this area of the world, and as the review said, this seems like a more accessible way to learn about the region than what some news articles and textbooks may offer.

A thriller book on music, politics, love and conflict between two nations. The writer did some great work trying to explain how the political differences affected the relationship between Irith and Jamal. Excellent writing.

I love the premise of a school that brings Jewish and Palestinean students together in an environment where they can openly debate social and political issues. If things change in the Middle East, it will be done through the young people in those regions. Then Jamal’s interest in studying music is also a very interesting part of the story. I like the storyline and the way the story is told. My favorite line in the text that I read was when Jamal’s father said, “I promise you, you won’t need any of this singing stuff in medical school.” Parents are the same all over the world!

You review makes this sound like a great read. I always like historical fiction, but I must admit that I am not well-read on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I might give this a try!
