Why weren't the two granddaughters trained? Was the training a physical or mental one? If physical, it makes me imagine Mysz as a disabled. I guess I utterly have to read this book now to get answers

Oh, this seems like an all-rounder! Character-driven plots are always a pleasure, and to learn that the author did so much research is another recommendation. Thanks for the review.

This sounds like a lovely, yet heartbreaking and tragic historical fiction. I appreciate the author's accurate depictions of the torture the Jewish people experienced at the hands of the Nazis. Congrats on the book of the day. Great review.

While your review was impeccable, I don't think this book is for me. I don't think I could handle reading about the concentration camps in that much detail. It also sounds quite heart-wrenching.

Although today's BOTD is not thw one for me, readers who enjoy historical fiction novels set during WWII with well-developed characters, events, and descriptions will thoroughly enjoy this read! Thank you so much! Your review was outstanding!

In particular, I liked Grandpappy Harran and his favorite twin granddaughter, Brygida. I found the amount of wisdom the septuagenarian had, their personalities, and the kind of relationship the duo shared to be so impacting. As a result, I couldn't help but bond with them naturally. This, in turn, enhanced my enjoyment of this terrific novel.

Grandparents are awesome

and they have so much wisdom to offer. I like WWII novels, although I'm not sure I want, as you say, "long-lasting mental pictures" of the concentration camps in my head...

Quite a detailed review. I like when historical story tellers express themselves in all the ways they can and making imagery very clear to the reader. I would love to read this. Thanks!
