The most interesting part of the review was the concept of warners and weepers. I have never heard of anything like this before. Just for this fact, I might read the book even though I am not usually interested in historical novels

This book is a must read. I need to know more about Augustus. It sounds like his childhood was not the smoothest. Great review!

This sounds like a sad story about a step child with a unique and interesting background. Congratulations BOTD!

Its a highly emotional drama book.
I would definitely like to read this book and know how little True overcome bullying at school and how this incident affects his life further.
Thank you for the wonderful review.

Augustus True has always been treated differently than his siblings—it seemed like his very presence irritated Mrs. True, who didn't hide her disdain for him. When he and his brother, Jefferson, are sent away to a prestigious military school, he is excited about the experience. Still, he quickly learns that his happiness is premature when it is revealed that his parents sold him to the school to work as payment for Jefferson's education.
My God, that must be a horrible experience. Why adopt a child just to treat him unfairly?
Maybe I had been living under a rock, but before being enlightened by the author, I had no prior knowledge regarding the art of weeping.
It might please you to know that there are still weepers in other countries, such as mine (Mexico).
I feel compelled to talk about the author's decision to explore the plight of forbidden love. While there were many heartbreaking scenes, I commend the author for providing the harsh reality—sometimes love, on its own, isn't enough. Sometimes, the odds are not stacked in our favor, and the stars cannot align.
Such a sad truth, but you captured it so well!
Thank you for an excellently written review!

What you have described here is undeniably the kind of book that I would love. However, such a lengthy tome might be a bit too much for me! I love the strange inclusion of weepers and warners - it is a very interesting angle and one I’d like to learn more about. Thanks for the review.

This seems like it has an interesting premise and a rather unique take on the 'forbidden love' genre. Thank you for the candid review!

I love learning about history and different customs that were the norm then but may have fallen out of practice. That along with the intriguing storyline of forbidden love makes this a must read. Thanks for your thorough review.

I enjoyed this review. I never knew about weepers and warners whether true or not. I do feel love can be mysterious and not meant for ever. The characters in the story had very strong roles. Some not very likeable. All and all. I want to listen and read this book. Thank

This takes me back to my teenage years. I use to devour historical romance novels. Then I somehow steered away from it and moved onto different genres. Your review, however, has brought back the memories and left me intrigued! This is definitely going onto my shelf.

Thank you for such a through, insightful, and inviting review!

I have always been interested in happenings of the past. The setting of this novel is so to say twice removed, as, while I have some information about 19th century Romania, what happened in the US at that time is a total mystery to me.
I like the way the action started, during a traditional funeral event, by an exchange between a child and a weeper (the weeper on the cover as it seems).
It is too bad that a keynote event is missing, as you identified, and this should be corrected in the next edition.
Thank you for your comprehensive, fair review!

I find the topic of warners and weepers highly interesting, but I am not sure whether I would enjoy this mixed with a love story.
