I don't know if I am being mean or not, but I love books where the main character, with a strong belief in something to the point where they can't see the wrongs that can be achieved by that thing, is put in a situation where they have to admit that nothing is pure and without sin. Or am I the only one that enjoys this fact from time to time?
Anyway, I liked the review and the book is definitely to my taste. Thank you for the review!

Normally, I would have passed the book in any way related to religion without second thought, but mentioned in review hints on scandals that "have tainted the Roman Catholic Church’s reputation for centuries." I had to reconsider and read sample. In result, I surprisingly admit that I really liked it and would like to congratulate author on well deserved BOTD!

Is interesting to read a book inspired by real-life events. Sometimes what we believe in, that we think is true might be false. The book cover is captivating and will make one to decipher what the book is all about. Thanks for the detailed review.

"Fire and earth" is an intriguing title for such a sensitive story. Anthony the antagonist intrigues me a lot. Historical fiction is my interest. Good review.

I love historical fiction, and this sounds like it has a Dan Brown feel to it. I look forward to reading this.

I am confused about whether this book is a religious-historical fiction book about the many wrongdoings of the Catholic Church or a murder mystery book. I have to pass. Also, I have to say that faith and church don't always go together, so Sir Anthony was not questioning his faith, he was questioning his church.

I love your honesty during this review. I get confused when reading if the speech looks like it needs to be corrected. This book sounds like an amazing read. Nothing set in the 1600s has ever caught my attention. Although this era was a more male-dominated time, I enjoyed the idea that author-created characters who didn't let it stop them. Great review.

I feel a Da Vinci Code vibe here. Priests are human, too, and sin just like the laity. That's why we need to pray for them. I got a free copy of the book today. I hope it will make sense to me despite my not having read Book 1. Sir Anthony seems to be a very interesting guy. And so is Earl Hugh.

Lots of books that are about religion, as to my knowledge and experience, are either boring, overly religious, or inspirational. I don't quite encounter many religious books such as these, those that actually acknowledge the wrongdoings of some churches, and the religious hypocrisy that comes with many religious people. I think I would definitely love this book. Thank you so much for the wonderful review!

I don't read historical fiction often, but this book has my favorite combination, mystery, romance, adventure, and crime. I also love a book with great characters, and from your review, it sounds like the book has just that. If I'm not reading this book for these reasons, then definitely for Francesca and Maria, girl power in the 1600s sure puts the book in my want-to-read list. Thanks for the great review.

Sometimes we do things that we think are right, but they aren't. We have to stop and ask ourselves,"Is what I am doing right or not?"

A historical story book "Fire and Earth" by David West, which shares how some Church leaders with less noble intentions tarnished the reputation of Church. I want to read this one.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Thank you for such an informative and well considered review Josephe-Anne and congratulations on BOTD. The story looks complex but you've made sense of it for me!
As the pieces of the puzzle come together and innocent lives are threatened, Anthony begins to question his faith and everything he was taught.

The corrupt and ill-intended actions of some people in power within organised religions, can make honest people question their faith. This saddens me, as the essence and intention of faith is not represented by those who are corrupt; they have their own agenda. Although characters in this book are certainly more sinister, it reminded me of the theme of corruption in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales.
