This kind of story would not normally catch my attention. I was truly interested in finding out exactly how Jacob will ultimately take his revenge. The characters in this story were very well written but also with enough characteristics that anyone can relate to them. Well done. The casual drops of Jewish tradition made for a very compelling read. I cannot wait to finish.

Unusual plot, inspired by reality, well-drawn characters, and a lot of effort put into describing the settings properly. It would be a very interesting book to read, a Bildungsroman about Jacob's evolution together with his brother. However, unlike the reviewer, I saw some errors and a lot of phrases that were repeated in different chapters, not detrimental to the story itself.

I love historical fiction and especially when there is romance involved! It sounds like Jacob and Heschel turned out to be strong men after their father left them, and they were raised in a brothel! This sounds like an interesting storyline that I will have to check out! Thanks for the informative review!

It seems like a solid fiction novel. I don't mind a little bit of foreshadowing in storytelling. It seems like a really emotional read dealing with loss. Great review.

I’m not a fan of shameful things happening to characters. I know I’m probably letting my mind wonder, but this doesn’t seem like something I want to read. Great review, though!

I am a history buff, love historical fiction and Jewish history. It looks like a great read. I am glad that in spite of how the children's lives started out, they did well for themselves as adults.

The journey of Jacon and Heschel is so inspiring. This book highlights the concept of courage from the perspective of two young males. This review is clear in detail and well thought through.

I love the plot of this book. I can imagine the pain they felt, after losing their Mother and their father leaving them behind to search for greener pastures. But it's a good thing they turned out well. I just wish Jacob will overcome his nightmare and they will be good again. nice review.

I cannot imagine leaving kids to someone who runs a brothel. The times were different, but still… Max doesn’t sound much of a father. I am curious of what happened to Jacob that would then, later, resurface. Thank you for the intriguing review!
