"Trapped in the turmoil of the American Revolutionary War, 'The Shot Not Heard Around the World' immerses you in a gripping tale of choices, consequences, and the medical world of 1775. Charlie Damitz's attention to detail is captivating.

I find the authors narrative to be simple and straight to the point. I also liked that the author included his inner voice in helping him decide the path his life should take.

That's an intriguing story! The idea of delving into the characters' inner struggles about the war is fascinating. I'll definitely add it to my reading list, as I believe I would enjoy this book. Thanks for sharing your review!

Fourteen-year-old Jeremy is eager to do his part to fight the British in the American Revolutionary War. But when he comes face to face with a Redcoat, he sees not the enemy but a man, and he can’t pull the trigger on his musket. The Redcoat, too, refuses to shoot, and the adversaries part ways without incident. Later, however, Jeremy finds that same Redcoat hiding, injured, in his family’s chicken coop. Jeremy takes Roger to the local doctor, where the doctor patches up Roger, and the three arrange for Jeremy and Roger to become apprentices to Doc Thorndike as surgeons’ assistants.

Throughout the story, readers learn the medical practices of the late eighteenth century alongside Jeremy and Roger, many of which, although cutting edge at the time, are now obsolete. But as primitive as those tools and techniques seem now, they saved lives, and their presentation here provides a fascinating glimpse at the evolution of medicine in America.

Ultimately war comes to Jeremy’s doorstep with the battle for Bunker Hill, so the three medics head to the front lines to treat the wounded. It is terrifying and exhausting, but it offers proof to Jeremy that he can contribute to the war effort as one of the bravest of the brave, fighting not to take lives but to save them.

I enjoy well-written historical fictions, and this one is one of those. I'm curious about Jeremy's age and whether he will figure out the problem. Congrats on BOTD

While I usually refrain from any kind of war stories, this book was given to us in class for assignment and I had no choice about reading and writing a paper on it. I must admit that I was quite impressed by it even though my little pacifist heart won't approve of it totally, but my teacher was good at selecting stories not full of blood and violence, but of true literary value. Congratulations on BOTD!

Historical fiction based on the Revolutionary War is difficult to find. Just try to name five books or movies that fictionalize the time period. So, it is with respect that I congratulate the author on his accomplishment, focusing on a time period so often forgotten, yet filled with extensive story potential.

Your review makes the book sound like well-researched and with a strong story. War, in the times of 1700s, should be interesting to read. Thank you for the review.

The review makes me feel interested in the novel. "The shot not heard around the world" by Charlie Damitz is a historical fiction baed on American history. Jeremy, a young boy who spent his childhood in hunting squirrel and rabbits one day grew adult enough to pull the trigger at a man. The story seems fascinating one. And the author has well equipped it with every kind of flavour.

You said that the story is about the internal turmoil of a boy thrust into an unprecedented situation and takes the readers away from the violence. Does that mean that there is no violence mentioned? The boy has to make decisions whether to kill or spare. I think that’s a tough decision for a young boy. The medical adventures on the battlefield are something I look forward to. Character progression of the characters Jeremy, Roger, Doc thornDike would be interesting to follow up since their fates are intertwined. Would love to give this book a try since it is a short novel as mentioned in your review. Good review.

War topics are something you should take care at writing them, but implementing another point of view or focusing the story in the moral and psychology point it's something incredible. I look forward reading the whole story and see what happens with Jeremy in this interesting story.
