I thought it was horror at first, but it seems like a nice story. It is amazing to see how the war affects the civilians. Especially a little boy.

Based on the review, this book sounds like it is very interesting. I am a fan of historical fiction, so I think I would enjoy this book. It also sounds like the story really touches the reviewer through reading about the gruesomeness of war and Kamel's journey to survive.

Thanks for your review! The book sounds like a heart-wrenching tale. I hope that Kamel and his grandfather will be able to reach safety.

I'd definitely like to read this coming-of-age novel set against the harsh reality of WWI. Many of the scenes must be genuinely heartbreaking considering the fact that Kamel loses his entire family with the exception of his grandfather. Thanks for an interesting review!

This definitely sounds like a very emotional, dramatic read. I'm fascinated by World War I and I haven't had the chance to read much historical fiction from that era. Plus, it sounds unique in that it's from the perspective of a civilian, rather than a nurse or soldier. Sounds great!

Charles Haubner is a creative minded author that has a way of pulling the reader into the story in a way that makes the reader feel taken in the journey with Kamel and his grandfather. I found it hard to put down as I anticipated the next obstacle they would have to overcome. A great book and engaging read. I recommend to all.

Thanks for the great review! I will definitely check out this book now. I enjoy reading historical fiction, and I have enjoyed books like The Nightengale and All the Light We Cannot See, which are both set (at least partly) in France during World War II.

I love historical fiction but I am looking to read about different time periods than the usual WWI or WWII. But it sounds interesting and emotional. Thanks for the review!

Great review. While historical fiction is not really my cup of tea this sounds like a great read for fans of the genre. This coming of age in a terrible time be in history has to have a heavy impact and emotionally charged. Thanks so much for sharing.

As interesting as the book cover, I'm interested to discover what could possibly be left for him to return to and more? But not spoilers. Best wishes to the author on the #BOTD 😷

I like your review and I agree with the rating that you gave this book. I think that tissues will be necessary when reading this book considering the horrors that Kamel goes through. I do not know much about World War I since World War II is covered more, so this is a good book to read. I also like that the story takes place in France where the majority of the battles were fought.

This novel Kamel by Charles Haubner III is a historical fiction set in the middle of bloodiest World War I and the country is, France. So the story of this novel revolves around Kamel a young French boy who always aims to leave his French town.

Kamel is passionate about hunting and for his support he has his grandfather, together they witness the atrocities of German Troops as the German troops ruthlessly slaughter Kamel's parents, and both Kamel and his grandfather run to save their lives, and they find themselves in the thick of Battle of Argonne.

Now they have to survive by fighting their enemies and Kamel has to show his survival instinct. Overall it is an interesting story in the Mid of World War 1.

Thanks for a great review.

Thank you for writing your review - it's good to see you enjoyed reading the book.
Historical fiction doesn't tend to hold my attention but the characters and devastation sound very intricate.

This one is a great historical fiction based around the lives of two civilians in France during the throws of WWI. It gives a unique perspective from the civilian side.
