Even though I love reading historical fiction, I probably would not read this book because the situation the family goes through sounds too depressing.

This book seems to be a powerful piece of literature which both provides a snapshot of a period in history as well as geography with which many will not be familiar. Between post-war Australian feelings to the day to day lives they live, this sounds extremely interesting.

This novel seems to be an interesting read of a family and their ups and down. I am quite intrigued. Thanks for the detailed review.

I still remember when we got our first washing machine. It really is a happy moment! We were sitting next to it half of the day and wached it like a TV. A book about the life in simpler times might be a nice getaway for a nostalgic rainy day.

I enjoy stories about both Australia and coming-of-age. However, I don't enjoy stories set during World War II. I've also read two books by this author already and found that her style is not for me.

The review was good and I think this book is really good based on the review. The few sample pages of this book that I read gave an insight of a family with a simple life.

What an insightful review! I appreciate that the book looks at history through the lens of a family that is trying to get through it all. It really is amazing to me to think of all the changes, too, that have come about in this last 80 years or so with technology. Things were simpler when my mother was growing up (about the same time as the book), but that doesn't mean they were simple.

Born into a kind and happy family, Anne dreams of becoming a nurse. A historical fiction based on family life, post WW2. Looks like a rainbow against the post war backdrop. Thanks for the review.

I like stories that are of different cultures, geographical locations, and anything to do with the WWII time frame. I love to see how other parts of the world live compared to the U.S. this sounds like a heartwarming story I’ll put it in my list.

Once again an inappropriate rating. No matter how small the editing errors it still makes the book imperfect and should not be rated as perfect.

This sounds like a lovely, easy to read kind of book, just the kind to curl up with on a rainy weekend! I would be interested to find out what the bone of contention was with the neighbours that became so serious, it caused the family to move away. Thanks for the entertaining review.

I love this type of coming-of-age story. Plus it's historical fiction. Even better! Looks like one I'd better add to my list.

Im curious to see what the issues were with the neighbors I'd like know what was so bad they couldnt move past. I've never read historical fiction but I might give this one a try. Great review.

Sounds like a simple but very entertaining story, mostly for the characters and the time and place they are set. Thanks for your review, I just loved it.
