War has too many far reaching consequences that it should not be an option anymore. Also, honesty is key in any relationship, I wonder how Paine's wife reacted to his confession about his mother. Good review.

This review does a great job of outlining an interesting plot entertaining history and fiction. This book sounds like it’s right up my alley since I enjoy this genre. The journals sound like a great added bonus to the narrative.

I read the first few pages after going through your review. Even though I felt like it might not be my cup of tea I still liked it. I wonder what forced Paine to lie to his wife about his mother.

This sounds like an interesting historical fiction book. The author has an engaging writing style, and I like that the book began with a series of letters.

The "wars" in the title seem to pertain not only to the World Wars but also to those in the Paine household. How did Treat's baby sister die? Would that be the reason for the rift in the family?

The times described in this book were difficult to endure, so it sounds like the author did a masterful job in capturing that with great characters. I’ll look into it.

I really do not prefer war historical fictions. Wars are horrendous and they occasion great pain to many families. Great review.

I don't care for books on war but the state of the Paine family and the deception is compelling me to check it out. What could have made Treat lie about his mother? I'd have to satisfy my curiosity. Great review.

While historical fiction is not necessarily my favourite genre, I always admire the amount of research and care that goes into writing such a novel, and this one is no different. John Millar is clearly a talented and dedicated author, as evidenced by this work of fiction set so convincingly in history. The impact of war and conflict on the Paine family is certainly a moving story. Thanks for the great review!
