This novel set in the late 16th and early 17th centuries is the second installment in the series. It deals with interesting themes such as romance, adventure, crime, corruption, science, theology, and philosophy. In addition, it presents an intriguing plot around the unusual murders being investigated by Sir Anthony Standen. The topics of the meaning of life, the nature of God, and the foundations of the universe are striking.

This book (and the entire series) sound like something right up my alley! Mystery and intrigue, while also dealing with the Roman Catholic traditions that can be enjoyed by all? I cannot wait to delve into this book.

Thank you for your insightful review. I love books from the Early Modern up to the Victorian era. I was enthralled by the first few pages. What a conspiratorial duo Pietro and his uncle are. It sure left me wanting to know what scandalous secrets will be unearthed along the way. This book will be added to my library for future reading. Congrats to the author on a book well written and for making it to book of the day.

The novel caught my attention, I have read the first chapters and, apart from the annoying speech of Hugh O’Neill, Earl of Tyrone, nothing is to be disliked. The reviewer did a good job as well, pointing out the main plot without a spoiler.

Wonderfully written review and the book sounds amazing. Will he realize that these killings are not what they're supposed to be? I am intrigued by your summary. And congrats on BOTD!

I like that the book poses theological questions instead of blindly following any one doctrine. Read it I definitely will :) Thanks for the review. I found it not only thorough but also entertaining.

This is the second book in a series, not where I like to start and it is historical fiction. The genre alone gets it a no vote from me.

This book's plot reminds me of The DaVinci Code. It's also very complex and intriguing. I would like to sample it.
