The review is good. It gives me a clear book description, and it looks like a great book. I love historical hero stories, and this book sounds good to read. The reviewer does a good job of describing the qualities of the book, highlighting the positive aspects of the book, and finding no negative aspects.

It's seems like a good read. I love the fact that it's set in Scotland, as I would like to learn more about their history. Archie sounds like quite a determined boy with big dreams. I'm curious to find out if he manages to become a knight. Thanks for a detailed review. Congrats on BOTD.

This review is so thorough, makes the book so interesting. Now I really need to red the book. And the whole series, as I suspect the whole story is not revealed in one book.

Archie’s journey sounds incredibly moving and full of heart, it’s inspiring to see how determination and courage can shape someone who’s been counted out from the start.

This sounds like an incredibly inspiring and emotionally rich read! The Douglas Bastard seems to bring history to life through Archibald’s powerful journey, and I love how his determination shines despite the odds. I’m especially drawn to how deeply the story explores character and legacy—it sounds like a must-read for fans of historical fiction and coming-of-age tales alike.

Archie's story seems like an intriguing one. It's inspiring to see how determined he was to make something of himself despite the continuous ridicule. The Douglas Bastard by J R Tomlin seems like a great read!

I enjoy a good thriller, but adventure is not my usual read. I will give this book a chance as the review grabbed my attention, and I will hopefully become a fan of the book series if this book leaves a good impression. Thank you for the review.

The book sounds great and educational, but I am very confused with the order of reading because the reviewer called it "The Black Douglas Trilogy Book 4" How can a trilogy have a fourth part aside, on Amazon the book is labeled as "Book 1 of 5: Archibald the Grim Series" so I gathered that Archie's adventures are side story to other Tomlin's historical series, but I have no idea where exactly it fits chronologically in the big picture of events the author describes?!

This story tells the tale of a protagonist who was orphaned at a young age and had to face difficult situations. Always focused on being better and achieving success, he ignored hurtful words and challenged those who challenged him. The writing style transports you to the moment of the events, as it is filled with vivid descriptions. It's a great read.

Archie's coming-of-age story, set in the background of wars, intrigues me.

The Douglas Bastard seems like a great historical fiction novel. The story is well written and Archibald seems like a great character. Hopefully, things go well for him and he ends up a knight. I like that readers will be able to learn about Scottish and possibly European history in general from reading this book.

Honestly, if you’re someone who loves deep, immersive historical fiction with a strong sense of place and character, The Douglas Bastard could really appeal to you. The author, J.R. Tomlin, definitely puts a lot of effort into creating a historical atmosphere—you can almost feel the cold of medieval Scotland and the weight of its turbulent past.
