I can't imagine the pressure and trauma of being blamed for one's mother's death at birth. Stephen will have to work through all of this to become the best he can be and not emulate his father. The book explores some themes I enjoy, and I look forward to reading. Congrats on BOTD.

I do feel sorry for Stephen. He had a very tough childhood. I felt touched by this story even though it was a fiction and I plan to read it later. I really would like to know what happens to him in the end.

I sincerely do hope that Stephen does not take after his father. This book sounds like a very interesting read because it deals with contemporary issues we face in life.

Your review was very interesting. This book will examine whether or not the actions of the parents have an effect on the children. Congratulations on BOTD!

I really feel sorry for Stephen. Growing up without a mother isn't easy I wondered how he coped with his abusive father. So sorry for him

I thought the bride will die too since Stephen killed the mother during birth. I say this because to some believes a child who's mother died during birth such child (s) are termed as abominable or are rejected by the family and society and with what they go through l am interested in how Stephen had the heart to fall in love, hm!. I love to read more.

I love historical fiction and eagerly read the description in review until stumble on the phrase: "Julie resolved to forego her studies in order to be with Stephen" and lost any desire to ever read the book. Because I will never understand the philosophy that encourages the women to lose themselves in love, abandoning goals, inspirations and self worth to become nothing more than attachment to a man.

What horrific surroundings for a young boy to grow up! And how unfair to treat an innocent child as a killer from the rest of the family. I wonder if Stephen was able to do better than his father with his own wife. This book sounds like an interesting story of the curses of the past and the hopes for a better future. Thank you for the lovely review!

Great review! I do hope this book will not turn into a romance, since it began so realistically that it almost made me weep. The main character's childhood was masterfully described.

The book sounds interesting and I like that the book is educational to some extent as it gives you a lot of life lessons. I especially liked the one of letting "go of both past wrongs and the individuals who caused those wrongs". If you continue to live in the past it will eventually eat you alive from the inside out. I'm sure I will learn much more lessons from this book. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I am not sure if I would enjoy a novel with flashbacks about Steven's childhood; they seem very traumatizing. However, I appreciate the humor and romantic encounters included in the sample. Thanks for the great review!
