The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has spanned many decades and a resolution doesn't seem possible in the near future. I am sure there are a lot of heart-wrenching stories of people caught in the middle of it, especially those Jews who fall in love with Arabs (like Ruti/Ratiba) in this story. I have read similar stories but would love to read this book too, considering the very positive review.

It is very enlightening to read about other cultures and the way people struggle with even the decision of whom to fall in love with. I am moved to be grateful for the freedoms that I have in my country.

Great job on the review! It's very detailed! The cover of this book immediately drew me in but the plot about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has also been something that interests me. This story sounds like it'll be heart-touching and it's great that it conveys a peaceful message. I look forward to reading this book, since you clearly enjoyed it :)

This sounds like a multilayered and complex story laced with meaning. Definitely the definition of "serious" fiction... I think the best books are ones that expand our knowledge and belief systems. Thank you for the informative review!

I wasn't sure if this would be my type of book, but after reading the description and your review, it actually seems like it has an interesting story line. I have never read any books from this culture before, so it might be something different to try. Well done on the review and thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for the review. I really prefer chronological books, so I am glad that you have pointed it out that this is not in chronological order.

The cover itself depicts the simplicity of the characters the setting and the story flow. Reading sample pages of it made me say that the story is more of descriptive. There is division in the description of every character which i seldom encounter among books i've read. I like the part during the wedding where it is lavishly described. The review is great , made me excited to read more. Thanks for the review.

To personify Israel as a character in the novel sounds like an interesting twist. Thanks for the thorough review.

The cover of this books is so pretty! This seems like a really interesting novel. I will definitely try to read this book as soon as I can since I love historical fiction but don't read books from that genre.

I found the first few pages interesting. From the beginning each characters comes in and you want to know more about them. They make an impact on your mind. The way she started in a place where the characters have already met makes it interesting to me.
The clash of faith where Ratiba has to make a decision as to whether to remain Jewish or to convert to Muslim to fit in is also interesting to me. I like that they are in love and that the marriage does not start when they are strangers as some marriages do in that culture.
I look forward to reading the process of her coming to her decision to change her faith, the thing she does to reconcile with her sister and whether her relationship with her father in law changes his opinion of her. Right now he seems hostile in her eyes.
Finally the other enfolding part of the war that is going on and how their lives will be impacted by it.
