A really well-written review. Thanks for taking the time. Although I'm not into historical fiction exactly, this still made me curious. That's what a good review can do. I might check it out.

I have read books like Ryan's Daughter also backdropped by war, or that movie I have forgotten the title of, about a wife who got relations with a German officer, and that woman was shorn of her hair, to disgrace her publicly when her act was discovered. The only difference is, they did not reach that point of bearing children, as a consequence. I think I will enjoy this book, likewise. Thanks to this clearly-written, and inviting review.

IsabelMay wrote: 18 Aug 2017, 14:33 Thanks for the review, the book sounds like something I'd enjoy so I'm definitely adding it to my reading list. The protagonist seems like a great character, even if the story doesn't revolve around her as you mentioned.
Update: This book has just been featured as BOTD and the author was kind enough to offer a free copy on Amazon. I haven't read historical fiction for a long time. Therefore, a story inspired by everyday troubles of a woman in the Napoleonic era will be a great book to start with.

It must have been a great challenge writing about her great grandmother with regards to anything she didn't like. But then I like historical fiction.

Great review. A girl yearns for freedom, gets it, but it is not what she dreamed of.

Historical fiction is a genre that rarely interests me, especially when there is no romance involved in the story, but your review makes it seem more like a coming of age story of Anastasia, that is influence by the circumstances around her. I like your review and I look forward to reading the book.

I love books where the main characters are parents. I think this will be even more interesting in a historical setting.

Way back in my high school years, I used to yawn while history discussion is going on. There must have been an awesome insight in this book which keeps you awake even at night.

A great review. You’ve sold me on this one. It’s a period of time I like reading about, and I’m in the process of plotting a story with information I found about my ancestors, so a win-win for me!
