I like history but to read almost 300 pages of it will be too much for me; and although the book does have a romantic line (the story of Carmen and Emile) I'll pass. I got my free copy and would recommend this book to my friend who will definitely appreciate such kind of fiction.

Usually I am not a historical fiction reader as I feel sometimes they are lengthy and confusing. But after reading this review I found this book interesting. It's a nice review.

Historical fiction is a balancing act of story building and historical detail. Based on your review, the balance is a little off in this book. Because I'm fairly grounded in the history of the Deep South, I'm planning on reading it. Thank you for your well-balanced review!

A storyline that is hard to follow must have been a challenge to read. But congrats on a really good review.

Good job on your review but i don't think will consider this one. The fact that the story is not easy to follow puts me off.

Maybe because I am not really a fan of historical fiction , I find this book a little complex for my liking. Nice review though

At first, I wasn't too interested in this story, and the detailed history sometimes overwhelming the story might frustrate me. But as the overall story sounds interesting, I will give it a try. I do love history and historical fiction, and the Civil War is one of my favorites to read about. So I suspect that I will enjoy this, based on the unusual aspect of Emile joining the union army in New Mexico. Thanks!

I love History because it’s based on pure facts. I love reading books that are set in the early era but get lost when it reads more like a text book then a story. So I probably would not enjoy reading this book. Thank you for the honest review well written.

I've always been interested in Civil War history, so this sounds like a book that I would enjoy. I am concerned about the confusing story line and the dryness, but hopefully I can get past that. Thanks for the review!

Your word choices flow very nicely. Descriptive but not overly wordy. Peeked my interest.
