Congrats to Priscilla B. Shuler for BOTD honors. "Kuimba" is a historical novel set in the time of WWII. I think historical fiction is such an interesting genre. I can't wait to read it.

Kuimba, born with eyes the color of the sky, came out singing! What miracles will he bring to his black people? I am definitely intrigued.

I am not too sure that the story relates to World War II that well. But I will say that it does seem to stand out on its own! The theme of the book does not interest me that much so I will be giving it a pass. Congrats on an excellent review! :tiphat:

I’m not so sure this one is something I would enjoy. While you said it centers around WW1, it seems to have nothing to do with that. A baby singing at birth does sound quite unique, however.

This sounds like a unique perspective on slavery and your review has further piqued my interest. Thanks for the recommendation.

When I began reading, I was concerned that the reviewer, would not understand the dialect. Thus holding it against the author, as poor editing.

This book sounds like it is an emotional and spiritual read with the potential to alter one's life. I have added it to my reading list. Great review!

Oh, wow! This sample really whetted my appetite for the rest of the book. The author writes beautifully; her descriptions made it easy to picture every scene in detail, without being overly flowery. It's clear that this story will be full of wonder, but also full of pain. I'm excited to see how everything plays out in the life of this special child. I must say, I also appreciated how the author boldly displays the gospel. I think this book will be hard to put down.

This doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy, but the review was interesting nonetheless. I like how the characters seem to recognize the good in a rough situation.

I do love historical fiction, but not when it is related to some selected subjects. Unfortunately for current book war and slavery are among them. That is why I will not read it, despise great rating and review. Congratulations with BOTD!

Even though the book is in the time of wwII, the book has its own story without associating the war. The book seems promising. The review was quite insightful and aroused my curiosity. Thank you for an awesome review.

I love stories from any of the war eras. But this one took an interesting twist as this is not the kind of story I was expecting from a story set in the era of World War II. Still, sounds like it would be worth a try. Thanks for the review

Espie's review of Kuimba by Priscilla B. Shuler is a unique summary of a novel about an African American couple. Her review lures me into adding the novel to my bookshelf because it "coincides with the start of the first world war," and I enjoy historical novels. Espie creatively connects to the sample of the book that I read.
