What love interest is Carlo rekindling? Francesca? There seems to be a triangle of love going on beneath the drama and the war in Rome. Interesting book to read

I don't know what to feel about the fact that Francesca's life seems to revolve around three men.

This is a historical fiction set in 1943-44 Italy, Rome and German conflict. Anita Morrish seems to be very skilled in characterization and development of the plot. Your review is well written giving a foretaste of what's in store for the readers. I want to read this sometime. Congratulations on the BOTD!

War novels are not really my type of books. This story has a lot going on though - the word intense comes to mind - which should keep things interesting for readers of this genre. Thanks for your thorough review.

Somewhat of a historical fiction. I'm a big fan of Ancient Greek tale and fictions and somehow the always have a lot to do with war. Maybe in the past, it would be more of an internal battle between Athens and Sparta. This book has a more modern tale of Greece against Germany sometime during the period of the World War, I guess. Anyway, a very good review.

The review was excellent. Made me want to read just to know if Francesca's brother makes it home.

I am not a big fan of war novels. However, reading that this novel brings fiction into a nonfictional event intrigues me. I would like to read this book after reading this review.

This type of historical fiction, where true and fictitious events blend beyond the point of recognition is so difficult to pull off seamlessly. I commend the author on taking this type of approach and for such success in doing so.

Following Eisenhower's approval of the Italian government's request for an armistice, the Germans attack Rome. Opposition forces exist around Rome, and following Rome's occupation by Germany, several Roman soldiers join these forces.
This is a piece of WWII history that I didn't know, and it sounds like an excellent setting for this novel. Thank you for your review.

I am not a huge fan of historical fiction stories. However, the intricate plot the BOTD portrays with alternating in charcter views is a very appealing factor. I am also interested to see what part Italy played during the war. Nice review.
