I am sorry to say so, but with so many different, irrelevant characters, I will not read this book.

I appreciate books written from character's points of view. But it seems this must have been so distracting to deserve a deduction in the star. I love how the story is told though, and the character development. I'd love to read this. Thanks for your review!

The story filled with abuse, poverty, discrimination and all other social issues you can think about is most definitely not my cup of tea. Not to be unfounded I have tried to read "Ironbark Hill" and had to put it away, since the book was extremely hard and heavy for someone of my personality type.

Interesting literary work narrated from the characters point of view. I enjoy this kind of books wherein characters are granted a right to exist as if they are alive. The downside to me would be the author's attempt to break away from being identified as the author and narrator of story. Or it might be true that 'the excessive indulgence of characters viewpoints' can turn a good work of art into pitful exercise as the reviewer observed. However I suspect the author wanted to hide that the story is her own biography and/or her family history through fiction; and by so doing discovered her true voice through her characters. Irrespective of speculation I enjoyed the review and also think that those who love reading this kind of books will find a gem in it based on the meaning of the ironbark and the historical account of Australia.

I already like Natalie. I love female leads full of spirit, I'm warming up to The Ironbark Hill Saga. I'll try to make space for it on my shelf.

I do enjoy a straight fiction story and this sounds like a good one, if a bit dull. I agree that we don’t need to hear everyone’s opinion. Sometimes it is irrelevant.

Im rather picky when it comes to historical fiction novels but this seems like quite a good book. I want to see if Natalie reaches her dream and hopefully the cost to freedom won't be to high. Thanks for an insightful review.

The story was a bit of a slow read for me, but I did appreciate Natalie's strong will and standing up for herself, although she knew doing so could worsen things at home.

The Review is well written and I agree with all the points given and taken for this book. Well done!

I'll read this book because it touches on issues that are realistic and are faced by individuals on a daily basis. Other than that, the storyline seems complicated to me.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction about a poor family set in 1950s Australia and follows the daughter who dreams of escaping this depressing life style and finds comfort in a neighbor’s hospitality. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

The author’s choice to write from the characters’ point of view might have been a bit excessive at times, but I would still love to read about Natalie’s family with all their diverse, different, and intriguing personality traits. I would love to see the story she creates with these characters.

Maybe it would have been better to limit the amount of perspective in the book, for the sake of simplicity. A sequel would be a good place to add to the narrative.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I was okay with the character development and glad about there being only minor errors. But then you mentioned that the story is basic. That sounds boring. I guess I'll have to sample the book. Nice review!
