This seems like a unique book. I've never seen a historical fiction about wrestling. However, it's not a subject that interests me. Congrats on BOTD though!

I like the fact that this book is character-driven, which means readers will be fully immersed into the storyline. Thank you for the review.

"The Early Years of 'Squirt' Malone" is a captivating historical fiction novel that delves into the life of John 'Squirt' Malone, a young boy whose journey takes him from the humble beginnings of a cattle rancher's son to the intriguing world of professional wrestling in the early nineteen hundreds. Inspired by the history of the Goldust trio, this book offers a unique perspective on the development of the professional wrestling industry, showcasing the physicality, entertainment, and challenges faced by those involved.

The title made me think it was an autobiography but after reading about it I am shocked to realize it is fiction. I admire the courage and bravery that John exhibited. He knew what he wanted at such a young age of 12 and he went for it. That is one big step to make.

I understand from this review that "Squirt' Malone" by Richard W. Kelly is a historical fiction about professional wrestling. I don't know the origin of wrestling so I will consider reading this book.

This seems to be an exciting book. Malone's desire to be a professional wrestler is a noble one. I hope he achieves this desire. Thanks for the review.

The way the narrator's voice was developed throughout the book is commendable. It's not easy to create a distinct and engaging voice for a character, especially in a first-person narrative. Richard W. Kelly's skill in fleshing out the protagonist's personality and emotions made the reading experience even more immersive and enjoyable. Great review.

First off I would just like to say that this is an excellent review. Now that that is out of the way, I too am surprised to learn that this book is fiction. I thought for sure it was autobiographical. The only thing that was difficult for me to believe was the dialogue of a 12 year old protagonist and the Smiley character. I thought for sure that there was no way a kid his age from a ranch house in the middle of nowhere would have the intelligence and whit to actually talk the way that he was talking. Other then that, I loved the sample of the book and I tend to stay away from fictional works, but this one I would certainly read if I could find the time. I may just have to add it to my reading list.

Wrestling has never appealed to me. All the violence, staged at times, makes me queasy. I never heard of the Goldust trio as well. I wonder if the author himself practiced the sport because of the first-person narration.

I am not a fan of historical fiction or wrestling, for that matter. I do appreciate that there are novels for everyone. Congratulations on BOTD!

The writing style and narration seem to be the highlights of this book. This tells a lot about the author. However, I'm not a wrestling fan, so this book isn't for me. Thanks for this engaging review!

I have been a wrestling fan since my childhood, and this book seems perfect for me to read. It's good to follow your dreams and ambitions, and I hope all goes well for John 'Squirt' Malone as he enters the wrestling world. Nice review.

I’m looking forward to digging into this novel to find out what wrestling industry is all about and what challenges Squirt Malone and the other wrestlers face in their journey. It is an interesting plot given it is seldom being tackled in a book.

Following one's dreams is a fulfilling endeavour and in glad Squirt was successful. Immature behavior and intrepid bravery aptly captures teenage years.
