I admire the resilience of war servants. Serving your country can be rewarding, but it also has unfortunate mental effects. Thank you for the review.

Onyinyechi Obi is one of my favorite reviewers here at the OBC because I can trust their recommendations. We must have similar tastes. It's the only explanation as to why we think favorably about the same aspects of a book. Obi speaks highly of Brothers Bound, and from the excerpt, I know that many people with military careers also speak of the book in the same way. I don't like reading about war, but I do like to read how characters develop, so I might give it a try.

Yet another narrative centered on the Vietnam War. This time, it's about Buck and Hues. Caught as prisoners of war, I can't wait to see how they (if ever) managed to survive, escape or get rescued.

This review does justice to the book. It mentions at large how the impact of war is detrimental to humanity and that it destroys society. It directly impacts soldiers who face psychological trauma, physical injuries and moral distress. Buck and Hues undergo this traumatic experience when they are captured and are prisoners of wa
r in Vietnam.

Brothers Bound is a tearjerking, emotional, and suspenseful story of the unbreakable bonds of brotherhood, family, and resilience in hardship. From the first page, you are captivated by the raw strength and realness of the book, catapulted into a world where all you require to live is loyalty, and how much better can you do than live when you are at the threshold of life but still alive in spite of everything.

The writing is gorgeous, with rich descriptions and a pace that never lags. The characters are real and believable—flawed, but very human. The relationship between the brothers is the core of the book, and it's so real that you can't help but want them to succeed through every twist and turn.

What is most impressive about Brothers Bound is its perfect blend of action, emotion, and heart. It is not just a story of hardship, but of hope and unbreakable strength that resides in love and brotherhood. No matter whether you come from a love for coming-of-age novels, gritty realism, or dramatic emotions, this book never fails to impress

War indeed is never a beautiful thing and should be avoided at all cost. I would love read about Hues and Buck’s story in Vietnam. They must have gone through a lot as they are held captives. Great review.

In Brothers Bound, Bruce K. Berger crafts a gut-wrenching tale of Buck and Hues, whose harrowing journey as Vietnam War prisoners reveals the profound physical, emotional, and moral devastation of conflict, illustrating how war’s trauma reshapes lives and communities long after the battlefield fades.

The fading hope of Buck’s dream to marry Jeanine and hold his baby, trapped as a prisoner of war, anchors the narrative in a deeply personal loss, making the stakes of survival feel achingly human and urgent.

'Courage and heart weren't in short supply, but something had to be done about it. Dying as a prisoner of war was never in their plans.'
War is never a pleasant experience. I'll like to read about Buck and Hues' Vietnam War experience.

"Brothers Bound" by Bruce K. Berger is a very emotional narrative about the intricacies of war and the horrendous consequences for all countries involved. I have empathy for soldiers that have gone off to war where they experienced combat with enemies and killed them on the battlefield. The mental scars are worse than the battle scars that result from being shot or stabbed. Having grown up during the Vietnam War, seven of my fellow classmates lost older brothers in this jungle war and will miss their brothers for the rest of their lives. I met and befriended Vietnam vets on my dorm floor in college and their PTSD was very shocking to me. Being a history buff I recall that the Union and Confederate armies marched off to the first major Civil War battlefield that was later named Bull Run. Both sides expected a very short war and the soldiers planned on coming back as heroes. There were more lives lost during the Civil War than in all wars in U.S. History. Having met survivors I could easily see that these veterans would have nightmares for a very long time and require counseling to help them deal with their demons. I am a devout Catholic and I was an altar boy from 3rd grade through Freshman year of High School. I served as an altar boy at the wedding Mass for my cousin and one year later I served again at her husband’s funeral. My family and I were so glad that the draft and the Vietnam war ended before I graduated from college so I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I would have gone if drafted and I would not have tried to get a doctor to write a note stating that bone spurs should prevent me from serving. I actually had bone spurs in college as well as later in life but I would never have used them to stay out of the military. I would have served honorably but I have seen the toll war takes on loved ones. Buck and Hues are the main characters and they were both drafted into the Vietnam War. Buck was assigned to drafting sympathy letters to the families that lost loved ones while Hues was assigned the responsibility for collecting injured and dead soldiers from the battlefields. Hues had a very risky assignment since the helicopters that were used to rescue the wounded and retrieve the dead were also shot down so while Hues may not have been shooting at the enemy, the enemy was shooting at his helicopter. Buck volunteered to help the graves department and was caught in the middle of an enemy attack. Both Buck and Hues ended up as prisoners of war in Vietnam and they both planned to survive and not die as a POW. They both experience the psychological trauma and physical injury inflicted on them in the POW camp. Buck and Hues formed a strong bond in the camp and were a lifeline for each other. One needs to read the book to learn if they both survived the war. If so, the bond they established undoubtedly lasted for the rest of their lives. This book clearly deserves its 5 out of 5-star rating and I hope Vietnam War survivors and millions of men and women that never went to war will read this amazing story.

I feel for Buck and Hues as they face challenges as prisoners of war in Vietnam, and I would love to know how they cope and whether they will make it back home to their loved ones.

Brother's Bound is a great historical fiction novel. The author wrote a touching fictional tale that showcases the effects of war. Buck and Hues are well written characters. I'd love to read this book to find out what happens to them after they become prisoners of war.

This passage paints a vivid picture of the harsh realities of war, emphasizing its far-reaching consequences on individuals, communities, and society as a whole. The narrative seems to delve deep into the psychological and emotional toll of war, highlighting the lasting scars it leaves on those who survive. The story of Buck and Hues serves as a powerful reminder of the devastating effects of conflict.
