It is pretty cool how mundane stories about everyday life can be so joyful. The River Kids seems like a heartful and enjoyable tale.

A historical fiction novel set in Australia sounds like fun. And with surprises, great character development, and "tomfoolery!" How could you go wrong. I imagine this is a rich and complex book. Thank you for the great review.

Thanks for the review. I do not enjoy reading stories set in or around wartime so will pass reading this book.

I have read other books by this author and her characters are always multi-faceted and believable. I like that she has continued with this style because characters without flaws seem unrealistic and flat. I like historical fiction, so I will add this to my pile of books to read.

Next to Ironbark Hill and More Heavens than One, this seems to be another wonderfully written coming-of-age story displaying Jennie Linnane's storytelling gift and descriptive skills. I love the author's female protagonists who need to find their way amid large families in an Australian rural provincial environment. I'm ready to find out more about Annie and the other Hughs children. Thanks for an excellent review!

Growing up in post-WWII Australia sounds like it makes for an interesting read. I hope that Annie is able to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse. Thanks for your review.

Though, this sounds like it could be a good story. It also seems that it may be somewhat dull. I have not come across anything so far that just jumps out at me. But I am adding to my bookshelf so maybe when I get to it it may be better than I thought it to be.

Sounds like an intimate portrait of a very interesting time and place! I love books that deal with family relationships and have well-developed characters.

River Kids by Jennie Linnane is a #HistoricalFiction set in #Australia after World War II. It is about Annie Hughes' #ComingOfAge including her dream of becoming a nurse.

I have not made up my mind whether I will read or bypass reading the entire story.

Thanks for the review.

A historical fiction woven as a coming of age story, wrapped into a beautiful and warm family setting. This is a story that just beamed sunshine in my imagination as I read the review. I can't wait to experience the Hugh family.

I love how kerosene lantern was considered new technology. This will be exciting to read. Reading from Anne’s perspectives and seeing the joy they derived from all the little things they had will be eye opening. Great review.

I would love to read the book because of Jack's activities. Exploring the activities and character of Jack would entertaining, as he is a hard worker and fun lover.
