Based on the review, it is a “surreal, touching and moving” story that emerges from the birth of an African-American boy with blue eyes, set at the beginning of the First World War, touches on very human issues prior to the abolition of slavery. It looks a very attractive work, I would like to read it.

The plot is as intriguing as the book cover. How the blue-eyed boy will influence the course of events in the lives of the people is mysterious as what probably is the role of the boy's skin in the novel. I cannot wait to dig into this masterpiece of a reading experience! Congrats!

I took a read of the sample on amazon, and while I didn't see a connection with WWI, it gives an interesting perspective as I hadn't connected the date in the book to that time period. This was an interesting review that further drives my interest for this book

I love the plot already! A baby whose eyes are as unique as the powers surrounding him. I'll certainly read this book as I love historical fiction. :techie-studyingbrown:

I think its all about timing and how focused and important the subject you are dealing with. I love the fact that this happened during world War 1but its no where in the bookstory. Thanks for the review.

Though the story takes place during the WW1 era, I'm glad the author focused on merrier events.

This book sounds like a masterpiece in the study of humanity. Your review was beautifully written and it grabbed my attention immediately. I do not think that I have come across a book such as this one in the time that I have been a member. I agree with your assessment that the slower pace of the novel and the lexicon used are a way to reinforce each character's personality.

A miracle baby born to African Americans at the beginning of WWI. It is awesome that this novel tells the story of the experience of sharecroppers. Great review.

Great review! This sounds like a very interesting book. I am curious about what transpires for Kuimba as he grows. What I have read so far has been intriguing and your review helped me to decide to read the rest of this book! Thanks for the recommendation! :tiphat:

A story set around the world war 1 timeline however its not related with it and having its own merit. I can't wait to unfold this story of getting stronger against the enslavement.

Not being a historical fiction fan, I would have passed up this book on that prejudice alone. But because of your review, stating that for those who "prefer the brighter side," I will have to give this book a real chance!
