It sounds like this book has the sometimes rare combination of great plot development and intriguing, lifelike characters. I'm impressed that the author can blend real and fictitious events so seamlessly. I also appreciate that there is no guarantee of a happy ending, as is truly the case with war. Thank you for this excellent review!

I love it when authors are able to draw the attention of the readers and this author did just that. I would really love to know how the war would end. Congratulations on BOTD.

This is a historical fiction that has an exciting plot. War and romance with survival are prevailing themes that draw readers to the pages.
You are yet to be the best version of yourself. Keep refining.

I rarely see historical fiction books that focus on Italy during the second WW. I would gladly read a book that offers such a unique perspective. It also seems to be an emotional ride. Congrats on BOTD!

This book should not be missed. I don't typically move on to historical fiction books on war, especially World War II, because I've read a lot of books on the subject. Rome is a beautiful and historically significant city, therefore I certainly enjoy the setting there. I appreciate the author's intention for her characters to have a realistic outcome. awesome book

I am always open to read new genres. Your review of the novel describes a tale of love, and that love conquers even in the most extreme of circumstances. On my list of future reads, thank you!

Most of my fiction and non-fiction knowledge about this time period is largely centered around Europe and the US. So I would be interested to read about a different area. I like how you went back to compare the story to actual events, so you knew what exactly was real and what wasn't. I do the same thing! It's such a juxtaposition when the author makes the reader care about people on both sides. I am very glad to read that she keeps you guessing to the end. Wonderful review, thank you. :text-thankyouyellow:

Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and I really like the premise of this book. Francesca sounds like a fascinating character, falling in love during a time of war, taking part in the war efforts and trying to save her brother. I also like that the story was based on true events during the WWII.

While I normally do not enjoy historical fiction, I think this book sounds incredible. I might have to add it to my ever-growing TBR.

Aside the war involvement during that era, there is this matchless feeling that is associated with historical fiction. It's just amazing to see what an author can creatively come up with, scenes and characters that can portray the happening of that period. Well done!

I love novels that incorporate fictional stories into real life events, specially when these are romances. The way the authors describe these events is as if they were there in every moment.

So I've been getting into historical fiction more frequently, it's not my usual pick up but I enjoy them. The premise of Shadow Song is one I'm enjoying. Sometimes I appreciate it when novel summaries don't disclose too much information because then my mind will go wild with the possibilities. So far, from what I've read it seems like it'll be a good book. Already it is giving me vibes from The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (which of course that is also a WWII novel). Francesca seems like a character that is easily relatable so far, and I'm actually excited to continue the story. Not sure I would have come across it without OnlineBookClub.

I always appreciate being transported to a different time. Fictional or not, there is much to be gained by the insight we receive from being able to put ourselves in other people's shoes.
