Thanks for the thoroughly insightful review. Historical fiction fans are in for a grim angle to the famous Columbus.

This took me back to school and history lessons. I would like to get an insight about Columbus and the events that happened during those times even though this book is fiction.

Such an intriguing book. I love the fact that the book is based on a true story with the historical events included. I will definitely read it. Great review!

I haven't had much reading about this period in history. Although the book is fiction, I hope to pick something from the story. Thank you for your review!

I'm sorry this part in history is clearly an unknown part to me. I'm aware that the person who discovered American is Christopher Columbus in 1492, and at that time it was the Indian tribes that hovered on these lands. It's very interesting to know that part of the history. Thank you for your insightful review!

I will like to read this work because of the acts of Columbus. But the category in which the story is scares me because I find history books difficult to understand and follow.

History is always interesting, it gives us more reason for who we are today.

The road to genocide, it seems, can be at least partially paved with good intentions.
I agree with your views. Great review! You have so beautifully juxtaposed the hubris of the conqueror and the anguish of the conquered.

After so many years, I still feel aggravated when I hear the phrase Columbus "discovered" America. I really don´t understand how that big fat lie can still be said out loud. I respect people's point of views, but this one is just way off. The fact is those indians weren't lost at all. They were in their homeland and that's it. This book topic just irks me, so I'll pass on this one.

I remember celebrating Columbus as a hero of exploration as a child. By the time I got to college, he was, perhaps rightly, painted as a cruel invader: the villain of the story. This looks like an excellent and timely read, considering the current discussion of whether today (the first Monday in October) should celebrate Columbus, or the people who lived here first.

Great review- this book seems like it would be an interesting read, and a perspective that hasn't been explored in great depth.

The one-sided characters seem a bit boring, but I hope they don't bother me too much. The theme is interesting though.

I am very surprised, but happy that this book was chosen for today's book of the day considering what holiday it is. I think that the rating of this book is appropriate and would deserve that half star deduction based on the criticisms that you outlined. I learned about the Tainos in my college history class and have not forgotten the horror that they went through. I think that greed and expanding of one's religion contributed to many of the atrocities.

Colonialism, religious fanaticism and human right violation, not my kind of book, but being history, I think 1 has a lot to learn from it. Thanks for the review.

I'm not sure how I would feel about the fictional embellishments that stretch credulity and the simple story. Although I like that the author explains exactly where he exercised some poetic licence. I also think that it's good that this book looks at the dark side of history - it will help to remind us that it should never be repeated.

It sounds an interesting historical fiction that pours light over Columbus's journey to USA and humiliation of the native people known as Red Indian. Great review.
