Your review shows you really enjoyed reading this book. The family in the book seems fun especially with a dad that is quite funny. Books on family are always good to read. The author does so well by adding history into the book and its still a fantastic book to read. Good review.

A historical fiction novel "River Kids" by Jennie Linnane is set in Australia in during the world war 2, and is a coming-of-age story as told from Annie's perspective, which covers her childhood upto adulthood with a dream of becoming a nurse. Elegantly interwoven historical elements with the story makes it quite appealing to read.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Isn’t this author so talented? I have read two of her books, and I absolutely love the way she describes scenes and gets the emotions across. This one sounds like an absolute delight, so I will have to add it to my want to read list.

I really enjoy the sound of this book. I read and reviewed Ironbark Hill by the author and if that is any indication on how the book is written, I am all in. Thank you for your review.

River Kids is a nostalgic look at small town life in Australia during World War II. The Hughs family, although poor, is rich in love and laughter. Congratulations to the author for being chosen as BOTD. Thanks to the reviewer for your excellent review.

I always appreciate a novel that has strong, authentic characters. That this novel is also set in Australia makes it even more appealing!

A story with authentic characters that centers on family and community relationships with historical event woven in sounds like a great story! Reading the review reminded me of reading my grandmother's journals. It's not usually my type of book, but it sounds like a great one.

I'm not a great fan of historical fiction but this book seems to be quite engaging delivering the story of the Hughes family in a fun and entertaining way. I like that the book describes life in simpler times when people only got aquainted with radio, television, a washing machine and a refrigerator and how the family got excited over these technological advances. Nowadays there are too many of them and it seems sometimes that you do not have time to live and want to go somewhere peaceful just to relax. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

I always like to read a good historical novel. The fact that this is centred around a family makes it all the more appealing. Best book of the day

Re: River Kids Review.
It looks like it would be a good read. Especially for those who love the history of World War two. The characters of the author's neighborhood look interesting, as well as Jennie's journey of becoming a nurse in a sexist society (where there weren't many professions for women ) .
