Apollo’s Raven, authored by Linnea Tanner, is the first novel in the Curse of the Clansman and Kings series. This book is a historical fiction narrative and is full of politics, adventure, intrigue, and above all, love at any cost.
Catrin is the youngest Princess of the Cantiaci region of Britannia. Her father, King Amren, favors her, yet fears her at the same time. Catrin is the subject of a long-ago curse that has resulted in a prophecy that foretells of great power that can seal the fate of the King.
King Amren’s son, Marrock, from a previous Queen, committed a long-ago wrong against Catrin causing his banishment from the kingdom, thus stripping him of his right to the Cantiaci throne. Unwillingly cast aside, Marrock teams with the Roman Empire to take down his father and reclaim his right to become King. This leads to negotiations between the Romans and the Cantiaci clan where the Roman spokesman’s son, Marcellus, volunteers to be the Cantiaci hostage during the arbitration. The instant attraction between Marcellus and Catrin leads to multiple trials for both regions and could mean the difference between life and death for everyone involved.
All in all, I was happy with this novel. The characters are interesting and power the book forward. The pacing is perfect. There is the required build up and then a period of intense action that both thrilled me and scared me at once. The twists and turns throughout had me on the edge of my seat. I came to love some of the characters, yet there were others that I loved to hate. I experienced every possible emotion while reading. This is the work of a wonderful novelist.
Unfortunately, the ending was a disappointment to me. I had hoped for more of a tidy wrap up than a clear cliffhanger that will take the reader into the next book. Though, this is a personal preference and takes nothing away from the quality of the writing. This first narrative of the series has set us up for a perfect adventure throughout the rest of the succession of stories.
Edited professionally, I found only two errors throughout, and they were as such that they did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I award Apollo’s Raven a full 4 out of 4 stars, and I recommend this series of novels to anyone who enjoys history, magic, war, and romance.

Very well written but I find that there is much much more to the depth of the book. You did cover quite a few facts however.
