Back To Serve: Return Of A Soldier is a historical fiction novel, and a great one. This book was written by Cw3 Cesare Giannetti U S Army (Ret).

Back To Serve tells us the story of Nico, who spent 25 years in the military and now he is coming home. But before he returns to his family, he must drive halfway across the country. Everything was great, he was happy because he would finally see his wife and kids again and the trip was going without any problems, until he meets a Russian woman on his way home that tells him that his safety might be in danger, as well as his country's. This story represents the lives of those soldiers saved the country, but could never forget the pain. Cesare Gianneti is a great writer who created forceful characters and putted them in a compelling background.

The plot is extraordinarily well researched and it is so well written that it was able to transport me to all the places were Nico has been and feel what he felt in some situations. Other great thing is the twists in the storyline, which you could never predict, and, because of that, always keeping you obsessed to know how it was going to end. Besides that, the photographs that appeared in the book are really interesting and give it the final shot for it to be an honorable book.

One of the aspects I genuinely enjoyed was the characters. They are so natural and realistic that they become relatable for anyone who reads the book. Gianneti wasn't afraid to give them defects and flaws so they didn't look indestructible and, thanks to that his book was upgrated to a whole new level. All of the characters have good and bad moments that make them accessible for the reader.

Even though Back To serve is superior in a lot of points, I think some moments are exaggerated like, for example, when Nico met those women in the journey to home or when he talked about his dad and his friends. All those moments felt a bit unnecessary, it was like Nico became a different character.

To summarize, I rate Back To Serve: Return Of A Soldier 4 out of 4 stars for its impeccable editing, without any errors, its wonderful and magnificent characters and its excellent and unpredictable story. This book is definitely a must-read for everyone.
