I have not read a book by Linnea Tanner before reading Apollo's Raven. The Romano time period this book was set in is of interest to me. I did enjoy her writing style as well. This book kept my interest piqued while I read making me not even want to put it down. I would give this book a 4 out of 4.

This book is about the main character, Catrin, who is the daughter of King Amren. She is responsible for gaining information from the enemy, Marcellus, by seducing him if necessary. She is a fierce warrior, young, and beautiful. She can actually connect with a raven as she was born with a raven spirit. Can she comply with her father's demand that she get the necessary information from the enemy?

Marcellus, the son of Roman Senator Lucius, has been dragged along by his father to learn politics. During the meeting with King Amren, he takes notice of Catrin. Marcellus is left as an insurance to the Cantiaci people so that the deal made with the Romans will go as planned. He is instructed, by his father, to gain as much intel on the Cantiaci people as possible and by any means necessary. Is he able to do as his father instructs and gain this information from the enemy? Can he survive living under the enemy's claws?

This book had a lot of important history from Catrin's past that was fed to you a little at a time as you read on. Understanding why Catrin is the way she is lays in her past. Learning who all the characters were took a minute for me because there are multiple characters that are not in the book, but they are talked about. I had to do a mental catalogue of characters to straighten out who everyone was so I could get the intended picture. It is important to know who is talked about to understand.

Overall, the book was very interesting. I loved the time period it was held in as well as the depth of the main characters. Catrin and Marcellus both go through a lot of trials and tribulations by the end of the book. This book has mysteries from the past I could not wait to unveil. Books with a little suspense or mystery are the best for keeping me interested. There were some scenes that I thought could have used a little more sensory details to really put me there. However, I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. The way the books ends leaves you wanting more, wanting to know what happens next.
