A story of mystery, intrigue, love and a curse keep the pages turning in Apollo’s Raven by Linnea Tanner.

Celtic Princess Catrin has discovered she can connect with Ravens. As she secretly practices her skills she discovers the Romans and Roman warriors invading the shores Catrin’s half -brother has come to claim his rightful place as heir to the throne after being banned. Catrin’s half -brother had abandoned her as a child and she hates him and fears him. As she struggles with seeing him she informs her father of the Romans on the shores, while admitting that she could see through the Ravens eyes. As negotiations take place with the Romans it is decided that the Celtic King’s daughter will be held by the Romans and the Celts will take the Roman’s son, Marcellus.

Through Marcellus’s time with the Celts he gets to know Catrin and a romance starts to bloom. Catrin is torn between her blossoming romance and what is best for her people. As the Celts and Romans battle for power, Catrin must also find a way to break the curse that the Celtic Kings first wife has invoked. The curse of Rhan says that Amren suffer the same fate as her. As Catrin finds ways to stay loyal, keep Marcellus safe, enjoy her new romance she also learns of family secrets that threaten to divide her family.

I really loved this book, and the history and the storyline. The characters came to life for me and I found myself falling a little bit in love with Marcellus myself. The story made me laugh, made me cry and my heart thunder with excitement in some scenes. This is an incredibly well written book and meshes fiction with history very well. The mystery, and excitement of the book kept me on my toes and it was hard to put down.

There wasn’t anything that jumped out at me to pinpoint not liking the book. The only drawback I had a hard time with were the names. They are complicated names to keep straight but to keep it real with history they probably have to be complicated.

I found no errors and no profanity. There were a couple of love scenes but nothing that would be considered graphic or vulgar. The book seemed to be professionally edited and very well written. I would rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. It was incredibly well written and an incredible story.
