A Police Action by AA Freda is good to read. With all the Vietnam books that have been written, this one stands out as a love story first and foremost that deals with life in the Military and the processes and protocols they followed in the late '60s. I can vouch for the authenticity of the parts he has written about the US Army.

Coppi shows good character and a traditional, male mindset for the US Soldier. He shows great consideration without definite commitment. Sam, on the other hand, shows above and beyond independence for young ladies of the 60s. Both characters are developed and bring you into their romance and the challenges they face.

The romance and exchange keep you turning the pages down to the last page. It keeps you in suspense and as you go up one hill and down the other. More than once I said to myself surely this won't go that way.

The military service and deployment are told very creatively and at times, I have to doubt the interactions he describes. Most Vietnam books tell of mostly blood and guts. Coppi tells the real facts that most soldiers doubt the news from the lifers. He does a great job showing the real sacrifices of living on short rations and little to none bathing options. The poor lonely soldier suffers greatly from filth and available clean clothes often and the consequences show you the troubles of more primitive times. Clean water and clean underclothes are rare when on patrol and the weather and living conditions of Vietnam were major challenges to those facing life and death every hour of every day.

Considering the whole story I have to give this book 4 out of 4 stars for this one
