Linnea Tanner’s Apollo’s Raven is a tale of a young warrior princess’s conflict with love, magic, and family loyalty. The main character Catrin is struggling to understand and utilize her magic of foresight. Her foresight is part of a curse that has put her entire family and country in grave danger. Catrin is torn between her family and her lover, the Roman enemy. She has to protect herself from evil determined to destroy her while deciding where here loyalties lie. Catrin’s predicament shows her strength and resolve as she faces life altering decisions.

The plot of the book is clear and well organized. It is not cluttered with unnecessary detail. It contains enough detail to be informative but not enough to become redundant. Apollo’s Raven contains flashbacks that are revealed in a clear manner that add to the intrigue and plot of the tale. The setting and customs are accurate and appropriate for the period and time the story is set.

The author uses effective descriptions that captivate the reader’s imagination. The descriptions throughout the book are vivid and build a strong foundation for this fantasy world. The writing style is brilliant and takes the reader on a magic filled journey. The author has created relatable characters that contain human weakness that a reader can connect with. The characters are true to life and dynamic. Numerous secrets are revealed along the way, which superbly add to the intrigue of this book.

Apollos’s Raven is an enjoyable well written tale. It is also a very well edited book. I highly recommend this book and give it a 4 out of 4 rating. It contains an exciting plot and realistic characters. The book is a fast pace tale that is entertaining. I believe fantasy, romance, and historical fiction readers will all enjoy this book. What I liked most about this book was the unpredictability of the plot. It was refreshing to not be able to predict the outcomes of events.

The only negative comments I can say about this book is that it contains gory descriptions and sex scenes. Apollo’s Raven does contain unpleasant descriptions, though they do seem necessary in order to build the scenes. Also, sexual scenes in the book are somewhat explicit. Though I personally was not offended by the sexuality or gore, it many disturb some readers. This book may not be appropriate for young or sensitive readers.
