Sandra Eden's War by Mike Low is a World War 2 fiction, based on real people. At the beginning of the book, the author writes that his character Sandra Eden is based on all the female officers who fought against the Nazis in World War 2. This book tells the story of Sandra Eden, a British Special Operations Executive Agent, who is being sent to France to help the resistance. Her mission is to hinder the movements of the German sides, until the Allied forces can get there.

Right from the beginning of her journey, she is faced with life or death situations. After miraculously surviving a fatal fall, she goes on to do everything that was asked of her. Being a woman, in a male-dominated world, she fights hard to make her place. At every step of her way, she is ridiculed by the men she is supposed to command, ultimately proving them wrong with her bravery and spirit. This is her story.

I loved this book. It was a wonderfully feminist representation of the hardships endured by hundreds of brave men and women during the Second World War. The author has managed to portray the hardships faced by female officers during that era, without getting preachy about it. There is suspense, violence, and even humor in the story. He has inserted light-hearted conversations between the characters without destroying the seriousness of the plot. There is no unnecessary drama, or lengthy boring descriptions of locations and situations, which is a common problem with historical fiction.

If I had one minor issue with the book, it was that at times, the dialogues seemed a little too modern and casual for a World War Era story. But even that was only in a handful of instances. There were also a few characters who were introduced early in the story, who then proceeded to disappear without adding much to the book. The plot was fast-paced, with graphic descriptions that kept my interest piqued. I did not find any errors in the book. Thereby I conclude that it has been professionally edited.

There are some gruesome, violent instances in the book, which makes it inappropriate for children. There is only borderline vulgarity, and no sexually explicit scenes. History buffs and fans of war stories will enjoy this book, men and women alike. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
