Dagger’s Destiny by Linnea Tanner is perfect for romance, historical fiction, and science fiction fans alike. Centered around the star-crossed lovers Catrin and Marcellus, a cursed dagger created by a scorned witch threatens to destroy their love and their kingdoms. As they search for ways to break this curse, they must also save each other from the families that would rather they die than be together.

This book not only contains an extremely interesting and creative premise, but it is also wonderfully well-written. I was unable to find even a single typo or grammatical error, and therefore I would assume it is professionally edited. In spite of my wide vocabulary, I came across a few words I was unfamiliar with and had to look up to be certain of the meaning thereof.

My favorite part about this book is the historical and cultural accuracies interwoven within the storyline. From the rituals, to the battle strategies, and even descriptions of clothing patterns, a lot of research was put in to be as accurate as possible whilst also creating details meeting the needs of the story. Also, many authors try to add these details but in fact make it feel forced, as though they are trying too hard and it doesn’t flow naturally into the story. However, this author has no trouble not only including such details, but using them to further the story and educate the audience.

There is a bit of sexual language and imagery included in this book, and is therefore by no means suitable for children. Due to the presence of anatomical descriptions, euphemisms, rape, and general sexual activity, I would rate the sexual severity of this novel as a 4 out of 5. In spite of this high rating, such scenes and references were tastefully done and not obnoxious, as they might have been in such a story.

The only complaint I have regarding this book is the chronological confusion I experienced at certain points due to the changing of viewpoints. As such it is hard to keep some events in chronological order until a character sums up what has happened again at a later point.

All in all, this was a wonderful book and a wonderful story that I would love to read the rest of. Given the lack of grammatical errors, the unique premise, and the overall wonderful writing involved, I give this novel a 4 out of 4.
