In Sandra Eden’s War, Mike Low tells the story of Sandra’s passion for her country, her bravery, and her steadfast leadership. This book is inspired by a series of true wartime stories about female SOE (Special Operative Executive) agents who served with honor and distinction.

Mike Low’s narrative is simple and easy to follow. The book is more like a collection of Sandra’s war stories and is told in a manner that befits the stories. The 168-page long book is divided into ten chapters. Sandra, an English woman, fighting a war in France against the Nazis, is an inspirational story for every one of us. Her almost fatal parachute dive and her capture by the Nazis episode will keep you captivated.

The book is a refreshing read because we read about an era unknown to most of us. With minimal means of communication (radio) and limited means of transport (cycles and walking) and limited resources (handful agents and handful ammunition and explosives), Sandra can execute a string of operations that hinder the Nazi warfare to the extent that they are made to react. Albeit with a heinous crime.

It is now that we think of feminism and equal opportunities to all, but Sandra leads her team of SOE agents without the slightest ray of doubt in her minds or any prejudice about being a woman. She successfully executes all her missions and persuades her other male agents through her actions.

Of all the stories, my favorite one was the rescue of Bobby Coles, where Sandra portrays immense bravery and resourcefulness. When after his rescue, the Nazis retaliate by killing thirty innocent village men. All Sara’s colleagues question whether they should again carry out any more operations against the Nazis, as they may again retaliate similarly. I loved Sandra when she said,
“If we let that possibility stop us, we will never win this war. We cannot allow that. This is war. We are fighting an enemy the like of which has never been seen before. Without our determination to succeed, no matter what the cost, France and the rest of the free world will be in chains.”
This spirit portrays the depth of the narrative. It gives a message of working with a vision in mind. Small sacrifices will need to be made for the greater good. That’s the beautiful message I received from this short book.

It was professionally edited. The book contained no erotic scenes or profane language. There is a description of torture faced by Sandra when in German captivity. Those opposed to this kind of content should not read the book. But otherwise, this is a sweet war story, unlike other gloomy, depressing, and fear-inspiring wartime stories. So anyone can read it. For this, I rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. Honestly, there was nothing to dislike.

Happy reading!

Sandra's torture was really heartwrenching. But she is such a brave woman, she keeps hustling no matter how much trouble she gets in. She is a really inspiring character. Thank you for the review.

Atta girl! Sandra sure sounds like a strong, independent woman working in the world of man! A lead agent in a war, if that woman isn't fascinating, I don't what is! Thank you for your review.
