Review by kburden1 -- Sandra Eden's War by Michael Low
Sandra Eden’s War is piece of historical fictional written by Michael Low. The story is set during the period of World War II. The lead role of the story is a lady named Sandra Eden who is a British SOE (Special Operations Executive). This story depicts her deployment into France in a very educational and engaging manner
I absolutely love this genre and can appreciate when historical fiction can introduce me to historical information that I was not aware of. Most books and stories written about the Second World War do not discuss or mention the British SOE operation and I found that this story introduced to me, a very important aspect of the British involvement in the war that I was not aware of.
I loved how captivating the book was from the offset, when Sandra Eden is parachuted into France just a few weeks before D-Day, in 1944. As a British SOE, Sandra is assigned a mission to intercept a German troop that is around Normandy. The manner in which the story is presented, we are uncertain that Sandra will be able to accomplish her mission, but her confidence and courage does not fail her.
Michael Low has done a great deal of research to present the reader with a great story. Sandra’s character and a second character in the British SOE, Nancy, are very well crafted. Both women are impressive in their training and show a great deal of courage in the story, making it both special and memorable. The details of the War and the details of the SOE are extremely informative. I’m not sure that I have read another novel that does such a great job of being accurate in regards to the women of the British SOE while remaining interesting.
While some novels in this genre lean towards being having a suspenseful or romantic story line, Sandra Eden’s War is more of a narrative that keeps the reader entertained and pondering what will happen next. Without the added drama of romance and suspense, the reader is allowed to focus on Sandra’s story and the conflict that the entire world is facing. The writer depicts the war extremely well and focuses on the struggles of our heroes.
This book would be an exceptional read for all audiences. There is no vulgar language or erotic content in the book and would be well suited for people who like historical fiction. The book does not contain any errors and appears to be professionally edited. The story is well written and educational, earning it a score of 4 out of 4 stars.
