One Nation Under Trump: A Satirization of the Trump Presidency (From 1789 - 2017) by Tony Eglesias is a very funny satire of the Trump presidency. The author selected one significant event that occurred during the administration of each of the 44 presidents, starting with George Washington and ending with Barack Obama. Then imaginary President Donald Trump's most likely response about that event is inserted as if he were the president when that event transpired. For each of the 44 presidents, there is a section called “Campaign Notes.” These are comments made by the incumbent about his opponent in the upcoming election or the candidates that are running if he is stepping down. The final section of the book is “Actual Quotes By The Man Himself.” The whole book is only 109 pages, so it is a quick read.

The thing I liked most about the book is that I learned about some of the significant events that occurred during each president's administration. Some events were common knowledge like the purchase of Alaska under Andrew Johnson and the construction of the Erie Canal under John Quincy Adams. Others were less well known to me like the 1831 slave revolt led by Nat Turner under Andrew Jackson.

I liked imaginary President Trump's response to each event. There is no political agenda or hate speech in this book. It is just silly, clever, hilarious satire. I laughed out loud several times while reading the book. An example of Tony Eglesias' sense of humor is imaginary President Trump's response to the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden during the Obama administration. “This guy was a bad hombre... we tracked him down in Pakistan. Talk Abbottabad place to hide.” Abbottabad is the city in Pakistan where Osama bin Laden had his hideout and was killed.

In the final section called “Actual Quotes By The Man Himself,” we are reminded of Donald Trump's 1989 appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live." He asked the host, “Do you mind if I sit back a little bit because your breath is very bad.” That film clip is on YouTube for all the world to see. I enjoyed reading the quotes and remembering the context.

The author, Tony Eglesias, a New York City teacher for 35 years, has a razor-sharp sense of humor. I have nothing critical to say about this book. This book is well written and professionally edited. I found a few minor typos, but nothing that distracted from the book. It is a fun, quick read. I would recommend this book to adults, regardless of your political views, who would like a good chuckle about American history at Donald Trump's expense. The satire is often sexual, so this is not a book for children. I am giving this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading One Nation Under Trump, and I hope Tony Eglesias is someday inspired to write another book.
