Review of Back to serve by CW3 Cesare Giannetti
Nico Corretti is a retiring military captain planning to go back to his family and start life afresh in Miami. He took a long drive home after retiring. On one of his stops home, he meets a Russian woman who informs him about the danger he and his family are in due to him being an ex-military. The very same woman turned to be the danger she informed Nico about as she was part of a terrorist group. Nico is close to his father who lived in their home time.
While in Miami Nico receives a call informing him to return to service in the military department. He leaves his family again to fight in Iraq. Unfortunately he gets shot,he returns back home due to the injury where he recovers and spends more time with his two sons and wife.
Back to serve by Cesare Giannetti is a beautiful story that reeled me in from the first page and kept me hooked to last page. The book revolves around the main character Nico, his family and friends. The author tells a story of military service, loyalty, family, war and revenge- the real juice.
My favourite aspect of Back to serve was how Nico expressed his love for his family. Reading this part was like watching a fascinating train wreck that i could not tear my eyes away from; Nico began as a very cautious man, never went out unarmed and was always alert which we cannot blame him for as he was ex-military. But when his family was in danger he incautiously visited a man rendered dangerous and powerful on his own. A man would do anything to protect his family- statement mostly used by people to express love.
There was nothing I most disliked about this book because it was exceptionally flawless; I wish it never ended. I wanted to continue engrossed in Nico's fascinating life. I spent hours silently repeating the events of this book in my mind after reading the whole story.
I came to a conclusion that the book was professionally edited as there were no spelling or grammar errors encountered. I am more than happy to give Back to serve a rating of four out of four stars because it exceeded my expectations with its well-developed characters and events.
Due to vulgarity and extreme violence, I recommend this book to readers who are eighteen years and above. For those who love books saturated with military histories and real war actions, Back to serve is a must read!
