This book Bedu: Bedouin Boy, Poet king written by David W. Sutherland and Paul McKellips is a book about a simple shepherd boy named Bedu, his journey, and how his journey reveals his true self. Set in 30 A.D., this book uncovers different aspects of life through the journey of Bedu.

It all starts with an unexpected visit of a king named Melchior, his granddaughter Yasmin and his army to Bedu's home. Bedu get to know about his father Abbas's meeting with the king Melchior 32 years ago, King told them about a special star in the sky. Bedu's family was living on bone soup and remains of vegetables of last season and they had nothing more than this until the next harvest. Bedu's father decided to slaughter all of his livestock (seven sheep and four goats) for the king's feast. Bedu was a little upset about this. While leaving, King gave him five gold coins to buy sheep and goats and requested him to check on his granddaughter in Bsharri. Bedu left his home to buy sheep and goats from Hebron. This journey of Bedu proves to be his journey of self-discovery.

The book revolves around the colorful and exciting adventures of Bedu's journey. His journey of becoming a great teacher and businessman from a shepherd boy teaches readers many aspects of life. Throughout his journey, Bedu experiences adventure, joy, and pain and in the end transform into a great teacher and wise man.

I found it hard to put down the book once I started to read. With the perspective of Bedu's journey and adventures, we learn many things about life. Bedu discovers many things for a happy and successful life from the incidents that happened. The moral of each is given at the end. These morals are Collaborate, Understanding, Leadership, Treat, Unleash, Respect, and Evolve. I love the way how the authors portrayed the character of Yasmin. She was such an inspiring woman with a wide mind and how she devoted herself to the great purpose of saving Cedars of God.

The book has a very simple sentence structure. The scenes are explained in vivid detail. I could clearly feel the characters' emotions through the authors' words. The authors' knowledge of the middle east is admirable. I liked the detailed description of the cities and even the duration to travel from one to another is mentioned. The book is very insightful and thought-provoking. There is much learning from the book that we can implement in our lives. It is a book about various aspects of life like love, family, education, and even business development.

I enjoyed this charming story very much. The story is interesting and engaging. The book is properly written and professionally edited so I am rating this 4 out of 4 stars. There is some problem with page setup as some sentences are cut short and are out of view but it doesn't interrupt reading because these sentences are also written at the end of the book. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy simple and profoundly emblematic tales. This book is also would be a great read for those who love historical fiction with a touch of romance.
