Review by FaithMO19 -- Rescuing General Patton
During WWII, a renowned American General is captured by the Germans. He poses as a mere Colonel to conceal his true identity. To rescue him, US Army Rangers must embark on a seemingly impossible mission; they are expected to invade the German POW camp where he's held hostage and extricate him before the Germans discover his identity.
Rescuing General Patton by Curtis Stephen Burdick is a fast-paced, action-packed historical fiction. It is largely based on some events that took place during WWII. It is a product of the author's imaginative power and ability to bring characters to life.
My favorite character in this action-packed thriller is Captain Peter Pizzio, who later came to be a Major as the story progressed. Major Pizzio is my favorite because he possesses strong leadership skills. His men obediently follow his orders, even if it'll lead them to their deaths. Major Pizzio is never afraid to mention how he feels about his superiors, especially if they are endangering his men. Although people consider him reckless, he does whatever he deems necessary to accomplish a mission and equally protect his men. Other characters are also beautifully developed; as the story progressed, I couldn't help but develop a soft spot for them.
My favorite thing about this book is the substantial nature of the plot. The plot is so intense that one cannot help but be drawn into it. It is also well-written, as readers can easily picture the described events in their minds. The plot progresses meaningfully, at a remarkable pace; there's no confusion at any point in the book, only intrigue about what'll happen next. I admire the author's effort in carefully presenting the historical events of the war in an easy-to-read manner. The mild tension in the book is also worth mentioning, as it makes it difficult to drop the book until one reaches the end.
There's nothing I dislike about the book, with its lively characters and intense plot, it captured my heart. I discovered just one error while reading, so I can reasonably infer that a professional spent time editing and proofreading it. Characters frequently use profanities when communicating with one another, so anyone uncomfortable with this should read with discretion. There are no sex-related scenes in it.
Rescuing General Patton is one of the most influential action-packed novels I have read in a while. What makes it stand out is that it is so immersive even though it describes events that took place almost 80 years ago. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars because it is efficiently absorbing and genuinely thrilling. I heartily recommend it to lovers of history mixed with action and thrill.
