Review by SN Mabeen -- Bedu: Bedouin Boy, Poet King
This is a tale of a 21 year old person's journey to seven stars. This is a talk of a 92 year old person's vision to see everything. A journey and a vision- they become connected by a time of the world's time in the historical book Bedu: Bedouin Boy, Poet King by David W. Sutherland and Paul McKellips.
The book's name tells it is about a Bedu named person.
Bedu, who is externally a shepherd and internally a poet. This book began from Bedu's father Abbas's little area in Damascus in about 30 A.D. When Bedu is at dinner with his family, in a sudden moment, King Melchior appears as a guest with a big army. King's presence makes some occurrence. And from there, Bedu's journey starts. He didn't know what can happen, but he started the journey in advice of King for his father and to seven stars. Will his journey be fulfilled? Will he be successful?
Bedu is the main character in the book. If I need to say about Bedu in one sentence I'll say, he is generally, but not ordinary. Every person who has a curiosity and the quest is general, but who has not this type thing is ordinary. General person becomes extraordinary and then his journey becomes his tale. Because this book is on historical background, there are historical characters such as King Melchior the King of Persia and the Magi (the oldest one of the three wise men who visited the infant Jesus by following star), who is wise and kind. There are the notable characters of King's granddaughter Yasmin the lover, Bedu's father Abbas the giver, Abbas's cousin Wali the great business man, Tamir, who has the quest for knowledge, Noam the little world and others.
This book is well written and its words are clear. A few typing mistakes and no such adult thing there. The plot is like an uncatchable catch. The theme is well known, but its catching, explaining is totally good. There are some knowledgeable things about animals like sheep, plants like cedar trees and the art of the words like poetry. Besides, this book painted the picture of various places of the old Middle East.
I was attracted to this book by its plot in flap. But while reading, I felt somehow I am reading a children's moral story book. Though eventually it was not so, but quoting word and adding its one line explanation for making a notable word, prevails that it is a kinda teaching book than a literature.
I'll rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for its well written plot and theme. Some beautiful sentences as quotation are mind blowing that can contain the whole book.
I recommend this book as must read to them who are not so deep reader and so deep thinker. It will be perfect for them, who are willing to find themselves, but don't know how, who want to change, but not yet known to change, no matter how aged they are.
