Review by Liveforchrist51 -- Let The Children Come
Let the Children Come by Tom Fay is the story of George Muller, a troubled kid just trying to survive the cruel blows the world keeps hitting him with. Fay takes us on the journey of George’s transition from living on the edge to living for the Lord. Growing up, his main supporter was his mother. The relationship he had with his father was not quite the same. When he lost his mother, he let himself spiral further into the already destructive lifestyle he was living. Partying, drugs and complete rebellion towards his father was all he had to live for until he was forced to accept the possibility of being sent away. Will the positive influences of his brother and best friend be enough to keep him on the right path? Through the trials of life, love, happiness, death and grief, we watch George’s life change and evolve into God’s true plan for him.
The best attribute within this story is the inspiration the author portrays throughout the complete storyline. Fay uses common human trials and tribulations to catch the reader’s attention and then shares the biblical purpose of those events to show how bad things can be made good. He provides biblical stories to correlate with the events such as the story of Hannah and Samuel. He also speaks of David in Psalm 27:12.
I also really enjoyed that the author pinpoints several life events instead of just one or two. He walks us through George’s teenage life, being a college student, and then to him becoming a family man with a promising career. In most cases, I dislike when a book jumps from different time spans so quickly. However, Fay wrote the storyline perfectly so the readers would not miss out on anything.
This novel was very carefully written and edited very well. There was not any source of confusion or issues understanding the true purpose of the story. It was inspirational and relatable. For these reasons, I would rate Let the Children Come four out of four stars.
I would recommend Let the Children Come to all audiences. Everyone deserves the opportunity to feel the faith, love and desire radiating throughout this book. Young adults could be quite motivated by reading it. Even if one does not have Christian beliefs, I think they would still find enjoyment in reading it and maybe also a chance to broaden their opinions on the religion itself. This novel does not step on anyone’s toes or show prejudice in any way. Tom Fay wrote a wonderful and influential story that should be shared amongst the masses.
