Sophistries Of Summer Days by Jenny Lofters is a story that will transport you back to a different time not recognized by the times we live today. The story is set back in the 1930s on an Island in the West Indies that closely follows the life of a young girl by the name of Cherrimina. The life on the Island is a simple and quiet one, with beautiful people and their colourful personalities, that as a reader you get to know and love. Cherrimina is a quiet young girl that finds herself in the oddest situations, one of which is when she comes across an American woman named Dove, who had run away from America after committing a crime.

Cherrimina grew up in a very religious household and was stunned when her mother and grandmother assisted Dove in getting back home safely and out of the hands of the authority. Cherrimina is left feeling Dove’s absence but is not quite out of the danger zone. After Dove’s departure from her life, Cherrimina starts going through what all young teenagers go through, pubity, and all the urges that come with it. She goes through a confusing period of which she is wanting to give into her fleshly desires, yet she feels guilty on the very thought. Cherrimina goes through a growing period, trying to figure out who she is and with that comes loss, confusion and loneliness.

After a few years of trying to figure out who she is and where she hails from, she decides to go visit her friend Dove, who has made a success out of her life in America. Life in the big apple is nothing like the life on the Isalnd and Cherrimina quickly starts to appreciate her home more than she ever has and slowly she starts to find her feet in the world.

The author, Jenny Lofters, has a beautiful way with words that make it hard to put the book down. Sophistries Of Summer Days shares real life issues that many face everyday and it touches on painful truths that most of us either deny or hide. It is a book that I can see turning into an award-winning movie, every chapter gets better and deeper.

I rate the book Sophistries of Summer Days a perfect four out of four stars. The story line is captivating and the characters are very well written.

I recommend Sophistries Of Summer Days to anyone who loves fiction and history as this book marries the two perfectly without being overbearing.
