Review of Rescuing General Patton
The world of war is more than what we hear. The historical fiction novel Rescuing General Patton proves that in many ways. The story follows the truth behind the secret mission of our central character General S. Patton during World War II. The story follows the terror behind the mission of the US Military to rescue a general from Germans and all other troubles following.
The story begins when Julia, the granddaughter of General Patton meets John Harding, a retired US army major in hopes of discovering the truth and real story of her grandfather. They gathered information passed by the daughter of General Patton. General was a hero during world war II. He was then reassigned to bring back the escaped Germans to Italy. But his team get attacked midway and Patton was taken hostage by the enemies. And thus their mission changed into "rescuing General". This mission was carried out by General Bradley and his best rangers, led by Captain Peter Pizzio.
The best thing about the book was the writing style. Curtis Stephen Burdick has done an amazing job of writing a visually thrilling, suspense-filled, action-packed book. The writing style where the author changed the point of view repeatedly made me understand the characters deeply. The author's imagination on each scene made the book more visualizing and appealing. He had done a great job in captivating the readers through his wonderful storyline and interesting writing style. My favorite character was Major Peter Pizzio. His individuality and his interesting personality made me his fan. His temper and his intriguing characteristics made him a lot unique. Despise all that he was genuine and committed in everything he did. The death of many soldiers made me mourn. It wasn't an easy read considering that. The author made us connect with his characters thus making us involved.
The one concept I always had a hate on was the "obey the rule" command given by superior, including missions like suicide missions. The fact that the fellow soldiers have no say in the missions they are doing felt always wrong to me, in this book too. But the author gives insight about the side of the higher-ups, which kind of made me annoyed. There was nothing that I disliked about this book, it was exceptionally well-written and well-edited.
I would rate this book 4 out of 4. It was an amazing experience as a reader. I could feel the patriotism and respect of the author towards the soldiers. This was a whole experience of braveness, gratitude, hard work, sincereness and affection. Since it is a historical fiction that includes war, it had a lot of violent scenes. I would recommend this book to historical fiction lovers and suspense, action-thriller lovers. Those who don't enjoy war and strong plotlines wouldn't like this book.
