Rescuing General Patton is a historical fiction novel written by Curtis Stephen Burdick. The story unravels a suicide military operation during World War II that was kept top secret for several years. It is a completely action-packed, well-researched book.

A historian named John Harding is determined to learn the facts about the capture of General George Patton during World War II. After meeting the granddaughter of the General, he discovers more than he could have ever anticipated. The author takes us back to August 1943 in Sicily, when the main plot begins. The US 7th Army's commanding general, George Patton, is taken prisoner in Nazi-occupied Italy. Nevertheless, the Germans have yet to realize his true identity and believe he is Colonel Henry Muelle, thanks to the brilliance of General Patton. It's up to General Bradley and General Eisenhower to work out a top-secret rescue mission before the truth about his identity is given away. With the assistance of a ranger captain, Peter Pizzio, and his team, they embark on an operation to rescue General Patton from a POW camp. Deploying a mission of this nature requires significant courage, especially considering all the unexpected challenges, injuries, and lives lost along the way.

I found the book to be a worthwhile read. We get to closely follow the lives of soldiers as well as the various dreadful situations they end up in as part of their duty. It is commendable that the author has depicted the alarming days of the war in such a vivid manner. The selfless nature of an officer, their willingness to obey orders, execute strategies, and care for troops under their command were well portrayed. The use of proper military-related terms helps readers feel part of the events and adds to their thrill. Despite the heavy use of profanity, I feel it is essential to convey the emotions of soldiers during the war. This book would be a really good movie if made into one.

There is nothing I disliked about the book. Nevertheless, some readers may not appreciate the plot's serious nature. With its mystery, twists, and situational drama, the book is a thriller. The book is professionally edited. For these reasons, I give it a 4 out of 4 stars rating.

This book is recommended for readers who wish to gain an understanding of warlike situations, especially those with an interest in the Second World War's history. For those who are sensitive to graphic descriptions of war and other related violence, this book might not be appropriate.
