The Second World War was at its height. The Allied Forces were soon going to invade Italy. It was at such a crucial juncture that one of America's top Generals, General George S. Patton, got abducted by the Germans. The world cannot be allowed to know of this abduction. Such news would create panic and demoralise the troops. Besides, the Allies could not afford to lose a General to the Germans. It was then that the top-secret mission to rescue General Patton was put to plan. The Rangers under Captain Pizzio were chosen for the task. But things did not go as planned. That is how Rescuing General Patton by Curtis Stephen Burdick begins.

There are a lot of things to love about this book. Firstly, the theme itself is enough to attract one's attention. Secondly, the narration has been brilliant. It was as if a war movie was playing in my mind. The author has penned down even the minutest of details. The storytelling was such that it kept me hooked to the book. Thirdly, it very well reflected the psychological turmoil the characters experienced. Emotionally, it was very touching. Fourthly, the language was simple and easy to understand. Lastly, the editing has been exceptional. I could not spot a single error.

As for the negatives, I do not have much to complain about. One may say that there is too much profanity. However, I believe that profanity in the military is a way of showing camaraderie. At the end of a certain chapter, one may think that the story lacked closure. But then again, the epilogue justifies it all. The book has been labelled as "historical fiction." Even if the reader is not that familiar with General Patton, one will enjoy this book as it has all the essentials of a good thriller. It was a satisfying read. I sincerely hope that this book gets a movie adaptation someday.

I will confidently rate this book 4 out of 4. The book has got everything right. An attractive theme, excellent storytelling, a gripping story in an easily understandable language - the book has them all.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is into action-packed war stories, historical fiction, thrillers and even mystery. Due to the excessive use of profanity, I do not recommend it to any minor. Unless one has a certain level of maturity, there is a chance that one will develop a negative attitude towards the military. However, it is important to keep in mind that war has its own necessities.

You won't be disappointed with the story. That's for sure. And the profanity... Well... It's military standard. (Pun intended)
